Summary: The options to connect this HT are totally confusing and seem too complicated. The directions seem to say the HDMI cable alone does not do the job, you also need the RCA connectors. That's the way the instruction book reads. If that's so, there are way too many connections necessary.
Summary: The problem I had with this is the top volume is low. We have a wood pellet stove in our tv room and could not hear the tv over it with this sound system. We ended up disconnecting it and find we have better luck just using the speakers that are built into the tv. I like how sleak it is, and at low volume the sound it good. But at the end of the day it was a waste of money for me.
Summary: I bought this a year ago to solve the problem of adding decent media sound to a room with wiring limitations. I read a lot of terrific reviews and a sales rep at Best Buy said he owned one and loved it. Considering the wiring limitations of the room, I decided to try it. I wasn't expecting full surround effect, just decent overall sound. After a year, here are my findings - Power - The unit is advertised to have 250 watts of power. I expected plenty of output.
Summary: I just ordered this item and set it up. I was really disappointed, the sound isn't nearly loud enough and my new Vizio tv speakers sounded better than the sound bar. I have a small room and didn't want a bunch of speakers and wires to deal with, so I thought this would be perfect. The sound just isn't good enough to warrant keeping it.
I don't think this product works very well at all...
Jay from NH, Amazon

Summary: I purchased this product about a month ago in hopes to overcome the issues I was having with the inadequate speakers that came with my Plasma TV. When the product arrived I set it up via HDMI and gave it a go. I began noticing immediately that the speakers were not picking up voices or other sounds when playing movies and other media.
Summary: I tested the Sony sound bar for a couple of weeks. The sound was not what I expected. Some of the voices seemed to come from the subwoofer (which is quite distracting). The only positive thing I have to say is that the unit looks really sharp. I returned the unit to Amazon for a refund and purchased a 5.1 Home Theater in a Box (including receiver) from a different manufacturer.
"cheap, easy to set up, but weak spoken dialogue volume"
7 August 2009
Pros: This soundbar is the probably the best I could get for $250. Soundtracks, music and effects sound pretty good -- especially when watching movies. Surround sound is decent for what you can expect to get at such a low price.
Cons: Volume issues with spoken dialogue, well documented by other reviewers. lip sync issues. Acts as receiver, but doesn't no Universal remote functionality except for Sony. A good speaker bar is still worse than a mediocre traditional surround system.
Summary: PROS: Looks cool, hdmi slots, great environment sounds, and everything else. CON: My only MAJOR problem with this unit - I can't hear people speaking! I bought "Planet Earth BBC" for blu ray, which has great picture of course and is narrated by David Attenborough. I can hear the monkeys, rivers, wind but can't hear the narrator. It's Ridiculous.
