Summary: I bought this product because we turned one of the rooms in our house into a movie room and the home theater system would make a great sound system for it. I like the power the system has, it really puts out a lot of sound. What I dislike about the system is that it has a DVD player built in, however the DVD player in this system does not work. It will play music CD's but not DVD's.
Summary: This unit was good for the time, but you can get much more for your money by breaking out components. It has good reliability. The only work I have had done on it was with the laser a year ago. This would be good for a bedroom but not as a main system. Today's technology is much better than it was 3 years ago. I would not purchase another all-in-one unit since there is no way to upgrade a specific piece.
Pros: Unit is all in one and has become dated. Not very expandable
Cons: Unit is all in one and has become dated. Not very expandable
Summary: I felt that I got an excellent product package (DVD player with surround sound) for a good price. I have greatly enjoyed the quality of picture and sound. Once you've watched/listened to a sci-fi movie with DVD and surround sound, you'll never want to go back.
Pros: speaker wires (wish they had wireless speakers!)
Cons: speaker wires (wish they had wireless speakers!)
Summary: Sound quality is poor. Not the most stylish unit around. Chunky remote. only plays a small range of media. Mine stopped working just after the years waranty and will cost over its current value to repair. Not impressed with this unit.
Summary: The DAV S300 was impressive two years ago when I bought it, and it continues to produce excellent sound/picture quality. I even find myself using it instead of my sound-system for CDS, mainly for the clarity of the speakers and the power of the SWoofer. However, even when the system was new, I could hear slight distortion when I played CDs loudly (volume at just 25/30).
Summary: The Sony DAV-S300 Digital Audio Video System provides a stylish, user-friendly all-in-one solution for your home entertainment, including a compact DVD Video/CD/Receiver and a full specification five-channel satellite speaker system complete with passive subwoofer. For those that wish to integrate DVD technology within their homes but are confused by the broad range of products and systems available, Sony has developed the ideal one-stop solution.
Great DVD/CD/tuner combination, but NO multi-region

Summary: I bought this Sony-system a couple of years ago and have used it with pleasure. It is great to have a tuner, CD, and DVD-system in one. The sound on the system is great, especially with good DVD-films. However, the system now starts to show its age - it does not play CD-R/RW, DVD-R/RW, MP3s and multi-regional DVDs. I would love to upgrade just the player and keep the speakers. As long as you know the restriction of this system you will be satisfied.
Summary: The DVAS300 makes for a superb entry-level combi into the world of DVD and cinema sound. It features DVD playback, Digital Cinema Sound with a number of sound fields, two auxillary in's and FM tuner. The playback and sound quality is faultless, with five high-powered satellite speakers and a subwoofer that would make the neighbours labrador jealous. It's aesthetically pleasing too with it's brushed aluminium outer casing and glass fronted display.
