Summary: I picked this up at a garage sale for $15. What can I say, I am more than happy with it, I'm blown away by it! For a unit that was made in 1998 I can't believe how new it feels. The sound, the hardware, and the user interface are all top notch. I lucked out, in that the owner hasn't used it in over a decade. It just sat in a closet. Can you imagine that!? I currently have my DVD player, PC, and XBOX 360 running through this system and it hits home runs with all of them.
Summary: I bought this product because we turned one of the rooms in our house into a movie room and the home theater system would make a great sound system for it. I like the power the system has, it really puts out a lot of sound. What I dislike about the system is that it has a DVD player built in, however the DVD player in this system does not work. It will play music CD's but not DVD's.
Summary: This unit was good for the time, but you can get much more for your money by breaking out components. It has good reliability. The only work I have had done on it was with the laser a year ago. This would be good for a bedroom but not as a main system. Today's technology is much better than it was 3 years ago. I would not purchase another all-in-one unit since there is no way to upgrade a specific piece.
Pros: Unit is all in one and has become dated. Not very expandable
Cons: Unit is all in one and has become dated. Not very expandable
Summary: I was in the market for a DVD/Stereo system, but didn't know what to get. I did alot of online research as well. I ended up coming down to three products, the panasonic equivalent and also the SAVA-900. The latter was beyond my price range, and the Panasonic didn't have the decoding options that this Sony did. Here are my bullets: Decoding for 5.1, DTS, etc. Exceptional for "loaded" DVD's. Remote - slick remote, could be backlit, but works well. Easy function.
Summary: I purchased this item over 7 years ago but never really used it until very recently. The Sony DVD player has always been the issue, since it doesn't play many file formats such as .avi. Nevertheless, now I have the system wired directly to my T.V. so I can hear 5.1 Surround from the T.V. and even after all these years it sounds great.
Summary: I bought this system or one just like almost ten years ago and still works great. I plan to buy a new system in the next few years and keep this one in the bed room as an extra one. The only thing I can say bad about this system is after 10 years the remote is wearing out. The bass is not bad but if you want real boom you need to upgrade. I gave it a f4 just because I like bass and it just did not cut it for me. If you don't want a lot of deep bass this is perfect.
Summary: I felt that I got an excellent product package (DVD player with surround sound) for a good price. I have greatly enjoyed the quality of picture and sound. Once you've watched/listened to a sci-fi movie with DVD and surround sound, you'll never want to go back.
Pros: speaker wires (wish they had wireless speakers!)
Cons: speaker wires (wish they had wireless speakers!)
Summary: I really enjoy this thing. It's small, simple to install, easy to use, even my girlfriend could figure it out! The DTS sound is awesome! True it would be nice to hook up a tape deck, but really who has that anymore...and it would be nice to play CDR's but you can hook up a CD changer or other CD player, no big deal! I would recomend this thing to everyone.
