Summary: I purchased my first surround system in 2007 and , having read some reviews, went for the Sony DAV-DZ230. Nearly 5 years on and I remain very content; the reason for the review is that the CD/DVD is starting to jam but the very helpful Sony support site has suggested all that is needed is to clean the CD Laser with a CD cleaner. As some other reviewers have noted, the sound quality is superb- whether DVD sound effects or blasting the tuner/DVD - and pretty straightforward...
Summary: Who is the genius person at Sony who thought that what was essentially an amplifier to play sound, did not require any audio in port? After days I am still scratching my head as to how I can get the sound to come out of this thing from my Sky HD+ box and Bravia Sony TV. Since there is no audio in, this is a nightmare.
Great overall, but would be better if it had an optical cable output.

Excerpt: The unit is quite slim line so you are able to place it nearly anywhere, and also the slim line makes it look good. The speakers itself are quite attractive, and are really good, they perform quite well even at loud volumes. The sound quality is great. Also the speaker cables that you get in the box are fairly long, so I was really able to place the back speakers at the back of the room, and not use extra cable.
For a cheap system this really outperforms its competitors

Excerpt: Well it looks fantastic, sounds fantastic but it does have a flaw. Starting with this flaw, the problem with this system from Sony is the lack of inputs available on the main player. It does not accept components, just scart leads, so you need an adapter for RGB components to scart if you want to play a few things through this such as an MP3 player or an ipod.
Summary: Please can someone tell me how to connect this Sony DAV DZ230 to an LG TV so that you have surround sound on the TV!? Someone told me to buy an RCA cable, which i did - but it appears that there's no corresponding spaces for these on the back of the Sony? Sorry, but i'm completely clueless when it comes to things like this. managed to get it all going for a film & cd etc, just not the tv. any help would be appreciated!
Summary: I have had this for 12 months now and really need to review the product. First of all if you have SKY HD don't get it...it doesn't have a digital coax' so useless for the surround sound. CD playback is poor. Picture quality is OK. As a budget, entry level product it is fine but it really lacks on a number of fronts. Saying that the sound is pretty good.....but don't get too anal in making a decision, just do your research!
Summary: good picture quality and reasonable sound on dvd but messy sound quality when playing audio cds.why do we have to have fussy audio setup menus with default settings just put a bass, treble and balance knobs on the damn thing and let me choose the sound i want.
Excerpt: "...purpose of watchingthem on my SONY home cinema system. This product has HD upscaling which means, it will upscale the quality of picture to suit your tv, and goes up to 1080i, works fantastically with HDTV's! I would not fault this product and would recommend this to anyone who loves films. It is also compatible to play what is coming out of the tv, which means sports, entertainment, sky, gaming consoles. Four speakers, a sub and a centre piece is ...
