Not a home theater, but superior to the monitor's speakers.

Summary: As stand alone speakers for the TV in a bedroom or den, this system serves its purpose. I would not consider these speakers as a replacement for a home theater system. But as I said in the intro, they beat the monitor speakers hands down. The remote for the speakers does not with a U-verse learning remote. The U-verse remote will adjust sound but that is through the monitor. The U-verse remote will not turn on the speakers, you have to do that manually.
Summary: I set-up in the main bedroom with sub-woofer next to bed and speaker unit about 12 ft away from my pillow. The sound is very adequate. Above all it is very simple to use. Sometimes those AV Receivers offer too much complexity for the basic user such as my partner and children.
Summary: I love this soundbar. I had the 450, and it was cool. Now, the 550 allows me to dim the display. Also as more connections. It DOES in fact do auto on with the optical cable, just have to set it with the remote, although Anynet+ has to be off.
Summary: I bought this sound bar to complement a Samsung PN51D6500 51-Inch 1080p 600 Hz 3D Plasma HDTV (Black) [2011 MODEL ] that sits in a bedroom. Connection couldn't be easier as I had a Samsung BD-D6500 3D Blu-ray Disc Player (Black) Blu-ray player. The sound bar included one of the HDMI type A to C cables but to connect the sound bar between the Blu-ray player and the plasma HDTV but a second one is needed.
Summary: This sound bar is amazing. Before I get into how much I like it, first let me say, the retail price is $449.00 plus tax. I purchased this from Amazon for only $327.00 with NO tax! I was looking for a nice upgrade from my TV speakers but I did not want the full theater, surround sound pieces. I wanted something simple yet powerful. I would highly recommend this sound bar.
Summary: Ok, so I read that this Soundbar/Sub sounds great but they are hard to set up and that there are "usability issues"...here is how I set it up in 30min and everything works and sounds perfect. This system uses the HDMI 1.4 ARC (audio return channel) if you want the soundbar to be automatically controlled. If your TV has an HDMI ARC (will be marked as such) input then connect the Soundbar to that directly. Then connect your Cable/Sat TV, DVD/BluRay, Apple TV, etc..
Summary: So we just moved into our new home and I had quite a bit of media equipment to buy for our Home Theater Room and the main living area. I got the biggest and best for the Home Theater, and just wanted something for the living room to enhance the sound, because alot of the latest and greatest LCD/LED/DLP TVs do not have great sound. Our living room is attached to the Kitchen and it is a big room, approx 19x27 and 12' ceiling.
Summary: Just received this item from Amazon. The unit is easy to setup especially for the novice. The instructions are adequate and easy to follow. Note the subwoofer and main unit are factory synced. So all you do is turn the system on. If you plan to use a Logitech Harmony Remote, I have the 700, turn Anynet off on all things Samsung and all will work fine. I am using all HDMI connections. Contrary to one review, 3D option works fine. Used the Amazon Basics A to C HDMI cables.
Summary: The Samsung HW-D550 looks phenomenal. IMO it is the best looking sound bar on the market. The sound is superb. I have read some reviews that said music doesn't sound that great, but if you use the Music setting I found it to be more than passable. Where this sound bar really shines is when watching TV or movies. Dialog is very crisp and full sounding. The subwoofer complements the sound bar really well, blending the bass perfectly into the mids and highs of the bar.
