Great Product only minor drawbacks

h1derly, Amazon
26 January 2011
  • Summary: Used for a year now. Great system for the price. Syncs with other Samsung products like TV which is both good and bad. Allows controlling with one remote but sometimes turns other units on and off when least expected. Wireless surround works great. SFX sound great, voices sometimes get lost.

Samsung HT-Z520 home theater system

makeithappen, ReviewStream
17 June 2010
  • Excerpt: You will get warm and fuzzy all over the moment you pull this sleek looking system out of it’s box. I bought this set up for my first attempt at a home theater system with surround sound. I will admit that I bought them because they looked nice; maybe …

Overall satisfied

  • Summary: This is a great home theater system. Only drawback is the remote rear speakers. The left and right speakers still have wires connected to a remote box so I will have to deal with wiring for one of the speakers.

Fine sound system

Frank M., Newegg
11 March 2010
  • Summary: Have no prob with the bass (wood floors help-ask my neighbors above me). I have 2.4g wireless and I get 54g to 160n speeds w/o issue so I'm not sure about the interference part. Wireless n tops out @160 anywhere I've tried it - even next to the router with everything off.
  • Pros: Great sound system, particularly if you own one of the newer Samsung TVs with the AnyNet+. I have a Blu-Ray Samsung player as well as one of their plasma 50" TVs. Wireless rear speakers are great. Be sure to use the HDMI only for picture and digital cable input for sound (from TV). Otherwise this...
  • Cons: Somewhat difficult to program Logitech Harmony One because of the odd collection of grouped inputs, but then what isn't difficult to program with Harmony? Would have been nice to have a lit remote, too. AnyNet+ occasionally reminds me of that HAL computer in 2001 - turns on the TV when I don't wa...

Great sound in a small box!

Richard J. Polney, Amazon
31 January 2010
  • Summary: The sound is excellent and was fairly easy to set up. We purchased it to be compatible with our Samsung tv and having an updated remote is a big plus. Now we don't have to switch remotes to get what we want. DVD and CD use is easy. Big bang for the buck!

  • Summary: Good 5.1 sound when connected to a set top box via digital optical cable. Get a harmony remote to go with it, even when connected to a samsung lcd.

THIS IS NOT 5.8GHz

Michael G., Newegg
16 January 2010
  • Summary: You get what you pay for, unfortunately. I have searched far and wide for the illusive 5.8GHz version, but sadly after receiving 5 of these, only 2.4GHz was to be had. Link to the SWA-4100 which is the receiving unit.
  • Pros: The sound is great for a low priced system. Upscaling is good. HDMI IN works well.
  • Cons: Recognition of DTS/Dlby streams was weak, to the point where system had to be restarted to recognize. THIS SYSTEM IS NOT 5.8GHz and NEVER WILL BE. All acompanying FCCIDs with product show that this operates on the 2.4GHz spectrum and creates MASSIVE interference with any sort of WiFi. DO NOT GET ...

Not too bad

Eric R., Newegg
14 January 2010
  • Pros: Wire Speakers in the rear are a nice touch. Great sound. Auto detection for speakers sets the sound levels for you. Pop in a movie and sounds come from all over at a great level.
  • Cons: Remote is not a smart remote. It will not learn to operate other TV's. Will only work a Samsung. Sound is slow to start, takes about 10seconds before you hear anything when changing sources.
