Excerpt: After a few weeks of research I decided to purchase the Samsung HT-X810T Home Theater System for my 42” HDTV. The soundbar surround system with built in DVD player and wireless powered subwoofer, eliminates the need for an AV receiver.
Conclusion: The X810 isn’t cheap at around $700, but given its extensive features and excellent sound quality, we have no qualms about recommending it wholeheartedly for owners of 40-inch or larger HDTVs from any manufacturer.
Pros: Excellent audio and video quality; good connectivity options; easy setup
Cons: Slow input switching; confusing audio settings; remote is not universal
Excerpt: After the recent Philips soundbar review, my interest was piqued toward these sleek devices, and thus we decided to call in more from the competition in the market. And who better than Samsung, who is now one of the biggest names in the audio video consumer market.
Conclusion: The HT-X810R doesn’t blow us away with either its design or its performance. From a distance God is watching us, and equally from a distance these look pretty stylish. Get up close and personal and well, let’s just say these have more plastic than Bill Gate’s wallet.
Pros: As with the Philips HTS8140 , this is a soundbar with a DVD player built-in and bass that comes courtesy of a separate subwoofer. However, here the subwoofer links up to the bar wirelessly, allowing you to place it almost anywhere without the fear of a wire cluster the size of Saturn’s rings gett...
Cons: On both the surround sound and DVD picture quality fronts the Samsung can’t match the Philips’ strong showing. While it does feature 1080p upscaling, it never quite wows us like Hi-Def pictures should. It’s also a bit disappointing in the build-quality department, feeling and looking very plastic...
Conclusion: The Samsung HT-X810 certainly looks good with the slick touch controls and the smart slot-loading DVD player delivering impressive results. The sound is also good once you have tamed the bass, which you never really can do to a great extent.
Pros: Slick design: looks great, good quality DVD playback, versatility: plenty of connection options
Cons: Can be overly bassy, slow to switch inputs and load discs, standby hum
