I'd rate the Philips SoundBar as a technically fine product with admirable design, build and features. It does its main job of improving on your TV's output, but ultimately it doesn't really cut it in home cinema enthusiast circles. Read more

I ts been a while since we reviewed a Philips product. Of course, that doesn’t mean we've forgotten the company, considering its reputation as a brand. Indeed, I have here with me a cool-looking innovative home theater system. • Good audio quality, along with upscaling DVD player and iPod connectivity
    • Virtual surround sound isn't very effective

Despite some size and cable issues, the HTS8140 is an impressively squashed down home cinema that produces the goods when it comes to both picture quality and surround sound. Its built-in upscaler means DVD pictures are pushed to near-HD standards, while Ambisound sprays audio effects to every corner of your room – a bit like your incontinent cat, only more pleasant.
