Soundbar

Martin Batten, Amazon
6 September 2010
  • Summary: Bought it to use in our camper. It works out well in a small room. DVD was a prime reason for the choice, combined with a good price/discount. Pros Compact simple solution to improve on plasma TV speakers. Provides a DVD player, making it a good contender for a camper.

Great sound

Jami R., Newegg
2 May 2010
  • Pros: The sound is great, the setup was easy, it looks great also.
  • Cons: I'm not able to turn the system on with the remote. I have called Philips but no one seems to work in that department, so I have to get up to turn it on. Which isn't a big deal it's just inconvenient.

PHILIPS HTS8100 SoundBar DVD Home Theater

Ginchung W., Newegg
9 April 2010
  • Summary: Bottom line, this is a decent mini system (with decent sound quality) with everything in it. If you want some real surround sound, go get a HTIB in similar price range with 5.1 speakers. Any of these will beat this soundbar in the sound effect category.
  • Pros: I would like to first identify my "listening" level so you can judge my review on my experience. I do have a full blown 5.1 home theater system with Polk's floor standing, center loudspeakers, and a 400W subwoofer on a Yamaha V765 receiver. I am not an "audiophile" person but I do like to listen ...
  • Cons: 1. Mid-range is weak. I bought a polk's soundbar for my in-laws and tested it before I sent them. The polk does much better in the mid-range 2. No blu-ray 3. only one digital input 4. You can't feel any effect more than stereo, even a cheap $200 HTIB will do better in sound separation (with worse...

Great value

VAP, Amazon
29 March 2010
  • Summary: Mid-range sound rendition is very good. DVD/CD player and AM/FM radio simple to use. Very easy to wire/connect and toggle between inputs. Still, like all these products, requires the use of a remote separate from the Comcast cable remote. Other than that, no complaints. Excellent value,I believe.

Must Read Review..10 reasons to buy it!

Jimmy T., Newegg
10 March 2010
  • Summary: Overall....Great device for $279.99...you simply can't beat it. Bottom Line
  • Pros: This is a great system for several reasons: 1)At $279.99 you can't beat the sound, look, and value! 2)Great with movies and tv shows. The surround sound is very good. It has great isolations coming from different directions in the room 3)Easy to hook up 4)DVD Quality Looks Great 5)Remote Control ...
  • Cons: The only con that this system has...as almost all of the other customers have listed..is..... The sub woofer has a long cable that connects to the soundbar using unusual cables (only reason why i did 4/5 eggs). How does a person extend the cables?.....i'm not sure. If someone knows..please let me...

Great Product

Allan G., Newegg
23 January 2010
  • Pros: - Great sound with movies - Quick Setup - Stylish Design - Fast shipping with Newegg
  • Cons: - No optical or HDMI audio in for the device, you can purchase an optical to coaxile converter for under $20 to receive digital sound. - Issues with DirecTV remote setup, the device is not supported by DirecTV remotes so you will have to use two or splurge for a logitech harmony remote. - Sound f...

Great for some things

Nicholas M., Newegg
26 December 2009
  • Summary: Very robust packaging. Even if it was severely mishandled (mine arrived perfectly) the unit would most likely arrive completely undamaged. I purchased this item from newegg, shipped and arrived very quickly; 4 days.
  • Pros: Sound quality is great. The Ambisound and Multichannel splitting of stereo inputs is great. You can clearly tell the difference between the stereo and multichannel settings. PS3 audio is amazing. Volume will go up high enough to anger the neighbors without a problem. The subwoofer does its job we...
  • Cons: If you are buying this to use as a DVD player, DO NOT. It exhibits several glaring problems. 1) The sliding DVD cover is frequently non-responsive and tends to try and close on me while I am loading a disk. 2) When playing DVDs it tends to not completely decode the picture leaving it excessively ...

Great for a small area

Stephen R., Newegg
19 December 2009
  • Summary: At this price, this system can't be beat. There are a few nickle & dime problems that I'm sure the next generation of sound bar tech will solve. In the mean time, this is the best $$$$ to performance all in one I'v heard.
  • Pros: Small with big sound Easy setup All in one solution for a small room
  • Cons: A wireless sub would have been a plus, especialy if you paid full retail.
