Very unreliable... the DVD drive stopped working ...

M. S. Nash "Shane", Amazon
18 July 2014
  • Summary: Very unreliable...the DVD drive stopped working well within warranty but I didn't do anything about it because I used the sound. I paid over £100 to get it fixed and it worked for about a month (just out of the repair warranty before failing again. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT.

  • Summary: Like most of you I am now a victim of the "no disc" error with this system. My question is...If I buy an HDMI DVD Player can I get the surround sound whilst playing a DVD on the new player via HDMI connection to the TV and if so what connections should I use?

Another NO DISC Issue!!

Robert Gee "Rob G", Amazon
22 May 2010
  • Summary: We were luckier than others. Our player worked for about 3 years before the dreaded 'no disc' error problem started. Can't play any DVD now. Player will be binned. Buyers beware! Shame, because as previous reviews have mentioned it works great when it works.

Tony, Amazon
27 February 2010
  • Summary: Same as every one else, NO DISC!!!!!! Arghhh. The worst thing about it is I swapped it for a Samsung that did exactly the same thing TWICE! so annoying!!! On the other hand it has fantastic sound for a 2.1 what ever you plug into it, I use it to stream music to from my laptop amongst other things...

23 November 2009
  • Summary: There's something wrong with the sound output on certain DVD's. For example; just played James Bond 'Live & Let Die' (remastered) and part of the soundtrack is lost! Most noticable in the opening sequence where you cannot hear Paul McCartney's voice, just the music & the backing vocals.
  • Pros: Easy setup, stylish, good picture quality
  • Cons: shortfall on sound quality

Short life expectancy.

D. J. Tams, Amazon
8 October 2009
  • Summary: I bought one of these about 18 months ago. Had trouble getting it to play discs although I'd done the software upgrade, we found you have to 'tell it' you're going to play a disc ie press the right button on the remote before you put the disc in. Once you know this it's not too bad.

Don't waste your money.

C. SEXTON "Sme", Amazon
21 May 2009
  • Summary: At first, the unit seems OK with a good sound. Then you insert a DVD and get the No Disc error. Probably the most frustrating kit I have ever owned.

SAMSUNG HTS 6510

RUBY LOVES "AJ", Amazon
5 February 2009
  • Summary: THIS MACHINE IS USELESS!!! NOT EVEN 11 MONTHS IN, AND IT'S HAD TO GO AWAY FOR REPAIR. THIS KIND OF FAILURE ON THE PART OF THE MANUFACTURERS SERIOUSLY WORRIES ME, AS THEY HAVE RIPPED ME OFF IN THE FIRST PLACE BY NEARLY 300 QUID. THATS HOW MUCH CURRYS CHARGED ME FOR THIS POSH SPEAKER SYSTEM.

No back up from Philips

Mr. C. Woodward "Chris W", Amazon
26 January 2009
  • Summary: Philips after sales backup is absolutely abysmal. Having bought The HTS 6500 cinema sound system for a Sheltered Housing Project, money they could ill afford, when something goes wrong you at least expect that a company the size of Philips could answer Emails and Phone calls, but not one has been...
