Summary: I purchased the DVD surround sound system unit in 2008. It worked fine for about a year. Then Paramount must have changed their format on their DVDs to prevent theft. Paramount, and only Parmount, DVDs would freeze in the beginning right when the circle of stars is cirling the mountain. I downloaded the firmware update and it fixed the problem. I have had no other problems since,it has been a great little unit.
Summary: I like the sleek body and clean lines. The system sounds great for a smaller unit, movies come alive on surround sound. I have had the unit for some time and now discovered a flaw, sometimes I have to unplug the unit to reset it when it stops in the middle of playing a DVD. Not sure what's happening there but it gets very frustrating, once I unplug the unit it works fine again.
Summary: After working the unit into the stack of equipment discovered several problems with the unit. After inserting a DVD, the player continues to say loading, and upon power off, standby without ever ejecting the DVD. After a rap on the case, the DVD loads fine. However, no sound in any mode from the unit with something as simple as playing a DVD.
Summary: I bought this speaker for $130 a year ago, still works great, moved 2 times and was extremely careless, no problem at all. selling it now for a wireless speaker. Sound quality is not excellent (what you might expect from a >$300 system), extremely powerful bass.
Summary: This is a great system if you don't mind a wired unit. It sounds great, the bass is amazing, and I recommend watching Pirates of the Caribbean full blast as your first "test" movie! I've had it since 2009, and I've never been disappointed in the quality. I also use the ipod/iphone dock all the time and it works great with all models I've had (iPhone 3G, iPhone 4, iPod mini).
Summary: The first unit we got had messed up sound. The speakers would pop even if nothing was playing. So we fought with both Philips and ShopTronix to get a new one. When we finally got a new unit one of the rear speakers didn't work properly, so we sent it back and are still waiting for a refund. (We sent the unit in a week before Thanksgiving) I highly recommend not buying this product.
Summary: Been looking at several different units for a few months . Read the reviews on this unit. Looked good. I had considered the Sony Bravia, DAV-DZ170. Priced from $199.00 to $300.00 as well. I was in our local department store, saw this one on a clearance rack as the "last one" Clearance price started at 189.99 Yellow tagged to $89.00 WOW! I snatched it without a doubt.
Summary: This is a great sound system for your home. It can get as loud as you need, very responsive. It is fun to watch movies with this sound. Has different modes that are great for different situations. Also, divx and xvid play fine. Picture quality from hdmi is great. Would recommend it to anyone.
Summary: I have to say that this is the biggest piece of junk... I've gone through two of them now because they decide to run a dvd for about 3 seconds and then freeze. You can power it off, unplug it and let it sit, eject the disk, what ever you wish to do, but it won't play past the 3 or 4 second mark into the dvd load. You can't bypass it anyway that I have found and it does it on any dvd, but only when it want's too I guess.
