Summary: Hi - well I am old school from a stereo stand point...components and manual switching. So I was a bit intimidated at first on the multiple changes and hook ups. guess my view point also shows its age - manual on CD does save a tree but when you are working to set things up ... a printed manual works so much better! lol The stereo meets everything I was looking for and once fully integrated will provide great sound for the room it is in.
Summary: I have a small office at home and I work on music in there. This has been great and can really get loud and strong if I need it, but I'm trying to consider my neighbors. I blast it on the weekends!
Summary: Our first surround sound system but so far so good. Set up took much longer than I expected and had to purchase additional speaker wire because the lengths that came with the system were far too short for our room. But the sound is very good and looking forward to movie night!
Summary: Alright so i bought this last december on my old amazon account and i absaloutly loved it, it had the HDMI Passthrew feature which saved me many cables like opticals from dish recievers and other sorts of things. The only this i dislike is once the system starts up and once its playing it sometimes has tuk, tuk, tuk sounds that are kinda like snapping coming threw the speakers and i even used Monster THX certified 16 Guage speaker wire instead of using the wire included...
if u decided to buy get it brand new from authorized onkyo dealer

Summary: I had a Bose cinemate2 in my living room and loved it for movies but not for gaming the onkyo hts5500 doesn't have the same sound quality however it is very powerful hideing wires for 7 speakers is difficult and speakers can seem bulky at times.when paying gamesyou do have an advantage knowing were the action is due to the 7.1 over all the sound system gives you a great verity of hdmi inputs a USB port RCA in put on front every thing you will ever need all though I would...
Summary: I have an AVX-290 for my den but needed a system for my living room plasma and when I saw the HT-S5500 for $241 I jumped on it. I read the reviews first and noted the subwoofer problems others were having but decided it was worth the gamble. I have an older dated stereo system with much better speakers for listening to music so wanted the Onkyo system only for dvd and blu-ray movies and for this it sounds great.
Summary: The bass woofer had a drip of lacquer. Once I chipped it off it wasn't too noticable. The sound is great. It would be nicer if the TV turned on the unit and controlled volume.. This way I wouldn't need two remotes. As it is, you have to adjust sound with the Onkyo remote.
Summary: B.B priced matched so I bought this unit for $389 and for a 7.1 with powered sub. Easy setup . The microphone for the auto speaker setup is very long making setup and adjustments of speakers for best sound quality is done in under 10 minutes. And makes a huge improvement . The easiest that I have ever seen and it really works. Yhe only down fall is I feel the speaker wire is cheap. If you upgrade wire as i did, it makes a lot of wire to run.
