Summary: Hi - well I am old school from a stereo stand point...components and manual switching. So I was a bit intimidated at first on the multiple changes and hook ups. guess my view point also shows its age - manual on CD does save a tree but when you are working to set things up ... a printed manual works so much better! lol The stereo meets everything I was looking for and once fully integrated will provide great sound for the room it is in.
if u decided to buy get it brand new from authorized onkyo dealer

Summary: I had a Bose cinemate2 in my living room and loved it for movies but not for gaming the onkyo hts5500 doesn't have the same sound quality however it is very powerful hideing wires for 7 speakers is difficult and speakers can seem bulky at times.when paying gamesyou do have an advantage knowing were the action is due to the 7.1 over all the sound system gives you a great verity of hdmi inputs a USB port RCA in put on front every thing you will ever need all though I would...
Summary: I have an AVX-290 for my den but needed a system for my living room plasma and when I saw the HT-S5500 for $241 I jumped on it. I read the reviews first and noted the subwoofer problems others were having but decided it was worth the gamble. I have an older dated stereo system with much better speakers for listening to music so wanted the Onkyo system only for dvd and blu-ray movies and for this it sounds great.
Summary: this is a great system with crystal clear sound! I like how I can plug my iPod/iphone and control it with the onkyo remote. I bought the unit as new display model and a week later the sub went out. i contacted onkyo and they paid for shipping and fixed it for free! hassle free! i love the system and the company!
Summary: After several months with this system, with one minor exeception immediately cured by Amazon, I am very happy with this system. Was happily surprised by the quality of the speakers, although I swapped out the left and right fronts for a couple of Warfdale's I had on my stero sytem up stairs, the stock system sounded fine and even my stereo system upstairs, suffers little from the Onkyo's.
Really like it, except the subwoofer stopped working after a few weeks, so returned it

Summary: I bought this system for my bedroom (already have a large component system in the main listening area), and it is very good, sounds great, speakers are decent, and it plays USB memory (which is the main reason I purchased it), although it is limited to recognizing less than 256 songs in a folder, and can only execute shuffle operations within a single folder - something I would have liked to know before buying it - my playlist is ~700 songs, so I have to pick which...
Summary: After 3 months usage, I think the system is good, except that the subwoofer does not always start up. I think the problem of the subwoofer is due to the embedded software that controls its power saving states, i.e. sleeping function. Here I find the tricks to make it start up every time: 1. Change the corssover to 200Hz in the receiver. Not sure if this really helps. 2. Buy a subwoofer wire, I use Belkin 15 feet PureAV Subwoofer Audio Cable .
Great Product as long as you get a functioning model.

Summary: I ordered this home theater system from amazon and it arrived pretty quickly. I set it up and had a few speakers not functioning properlly but after a little tweeking of the connections all were working fine. The big problem was the electric subwoofer. It came on when plugged in but it but the next day it would not come on right away. It eventually started working and was fine that evening.
