Summary: I wish I'd spent the money for a better system.
Pros: I read the reviews, but took a gamble on a black Friday deal. Once I received one that wasn't damaged setup was easy. Thank you new egg for making defective product returns easy! For about a month things were great, the sound was great and there were no issues. I thought I'd received one without ...
Cons: The subwoofer quit working after about a month. I was able to get it working again by unplugging it occasionally. Then the receiver stopped working. I looked through the troubleshooting guide and tried the suggested actions, no luck. Now I am wadding through the warranty process.
Summary: I have owned the 5500 for about one week. I took it out of the box, connected everything and it worked. I then disconnected it all, installed it, ran audyssey and it worked... for half of a movie. The sub died, and will not turn back on. No light no sound, unplugged plugged back in. Tested outlet.

Summary: I have owned an older Onkyo for years, an HT-R510. This thing is a tank and has been flawless for the past 10 years. So, when the time came to get a new system for my living room, and move the old one to my bedroom, of course I looked at Onkyo. I bought this system in late 2012.
Summary: Well, it was easy to hook up, but the sub isn't working out of the box. Now, I'll need to mess with settings to see if I can't make the sub work (this shouldn't be necessary). I'll mess with that tomorrow and keep my fingers crossed, otherwise it's going back. Now for a bigger issue IMHO.
Summary: Do NOT waste your time and money on this system.
Pros: Sounds decent and easy setup.
Cons: Had to send receiver off for warranty work 2 weeks after getting it. Had problems since day one. Then I got the receiver back and the subwoofer died. they want me to pay for shipping for that as well. Their customer service at Onkyo is terrible. I will never buy another product from them.
Summary: Buyer beware, with all the reviews on this system with the sub woofer issues. I took a shot and lost. I plan to return the entire unit and purchase another brand all together. One last note, folks who are interested in this unit, the speakers are quite large, finding a decent stand is a bit of a...
Pros: When the system worked it was great volume for a 15 X15 room. Enjoyed the features the receiver had to offer, including the mic. to setup the speakers. This is my 2nd HTIB set, and I was quite happy with the level of loudness with this set.
Cons: A good value, however i received a faulty sub woofer and other issues with the receiver itself. The sub woofer quit working the second day, for about an hour. Then two days later it shut off and has not come back on. I had problems with the receiver cutting the video to the tv, if i shut the rece...
Summary: You're taking a gamble with this system's subwoofer. The rest of the system is great.
Pros: Great entry-level system for people that want an awesome home theater experience
Cons: The subwoofer for this system is awful and comes on and off when it wants to. It's been 3 days and it hasn't come on since. Really upset about the fact that the nearest service center is 30 miles away from me if I want to use the warranty.
Summary: If it weren't for the failing subwoofer, I'd be very happy with this system...
Pros: Great system, easy to set up, sounds amazing!
Cons: Unfortunately, the subwoofer decided to stop working after 3-4 days. Doesn't kick in any more. I replaced the whole system for another one, and what do you know? After about 4-5 days, the new subwoofer stopped working!!! Very frustrating...
