Excerpt: Really disappointed that the remote is not a universal remote like another Onkyo HT unit I have in another room. This remote operates only Onkyo-made components, so it requires me to continue to use other remotes to power on the TV, cable box, etc. That was an unexpected royal pain.
Summary: It was easy to install. The sound quality of the subwoofer is good but that of the front and surround speakers is average. I like the choices of the different listening modes provided by the receiver. They emphasize the sound effects for different sound sources. I replaced the front speakers with the Polk Audio speakers from my other system for testing and the sound quality is much better. As the experts say, the speakers are often more important than the receiver.
Summary: My review doesn't have any new revelations that you haven't already read in a dozen different reviews. BOTTOM LINE: This is a fantastic starter system. It's an all-in-one system that has all of the benefits of a component system in the sense that you can upgrade the individual pieces as you can afford to do so. I plan on upgrading the individual speakers and subwoofer over the new 2-3 years and perhaps adding some external amplifiers.
Excerpt: Product set at home as primarily sound system for TV and music, great sound, quality and performance. *The only letdown is the speakers don't have a standard mount to use with any mount system, you will need to buy some of their own i guess. *The wire was too short for my living room, so i had to buy some extra wire, but it was ok.
Pros: Clear Sound, Interfaces Well With TV, Thundering Bass
Cons: Confusing Remote, Difficult To Set Up, Poor Interface
