Summary: I USE TO HAVE A YAMAHA AVR 1913 RECEIVER AND IT STARTED SMOKING, SO I BOUGHT ANOTHER RECEIVER, THE ONKYO SR800 AND I WAS REALLY SURPRISED IT SOUNDED AND DID MORE WITH MY SOUND THAN THE YAMAHA,THIS ONKYO SR800 IS GREAT 5-STARS IT'S GOT PLENTY OF BELLS AND WHISTLES I HAVE A SET OF CARWIN SPEAKERS AND A HI-END SET OF JOHN BLUE CUSTOMS THEY WILL TAKE UP TO 650 WATTS OF FIERCE POWER AND THIS RECEIVER PUT IT OUT AND IT WAS HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS LESS EVEN WITH MY HARMAN&KARDON...
Summary: Bought 11/30/2007. Worked great and sounded great until 12/2009 (2 years and one month). Then, started shutting off when the volume was "too high" (not very high). Length of warranty: 2.00 years. Actual life: 2.04 years.
Summary: I was able to accompish two projects purchasing this unit. First, was to own a very good theater system for under $500. The second, was to be able to eliminate the need for a second receiver which powered my home stereo system. I took the advise from some in their past reviews regarding the speaker wires. Did not use, purchased a heavier gauge wire. Only other feature I would liked to have had, would be smaller size surround speakers. No regrets with this purchase.
Summary: I bought this system for my home theater and I love it. My media room already had four speakers (two front and two rear) flush mounted in the walls, but I wanted to buy a full Home Theater in a Box (HTiB) to get the other speakers for full surround. I also planned to hook this system up to a PS3 for Blu-Ray playback. Most HTiB systems come with a receiver that has built a built in DVD player. I didn't want to get a wasted DVD that way.
Summary: It's everything you could hope for at this price. Good sound, solid receiver, and all wires included. I would recommend upgrading your cables (it comes with very basic stuff), but there should plenty of money left over to do that. The only thing it's missing is audio support through HDMI (it's video passthrough only), but you have to pay as much for a receiver as I did for this whole system to get that. Overall, you can't beat the value.
Summary: Excellent sound quality. Only issue I had was set-up. Being new to home theater systems, it took me three days and several trips to Best Buy and Ciruit City to see how the in-store models were connected. Once set up, the system is excellent.
