It is SIRIUS ready because of the built in jack at the back that easily connects to the home tuner kit also created by SIRIUS. Getting signals is not a problem since trees, buildings and other objects are not considered as hindrances. In addition, the movie soundtracks are created to be played at large places such as theaters. But the Onkyo HT-SR800 has a cinema filter that gives a quality to film soundtracks played in a smaller environment such as a room.

Review Summary

Onkyo's new HT-SR800 Home Theater is a full 7.1-channel system. It comes with all seven of the necessary bookshelf speakers, plus a powered subwoofer, to make a complete 7.1 system. Being part of HTiB, the HT-R550 is designed first and above all as a full-fledged A/V receiver, with plenty of A/V inputs and outputs. It includes plenty of digital audio inputs, component video inputs, and even a full set of multichannel analog audio inputs for use with an SACD or DVD-Audio player. Another great feature of the HT-SR800 system is the inclusion of switching for two HDMI sources. Plus, both HDMI inputs support up to 1080p resolutions. You can only use the HDMI inputs for video and it is a good thing that the receiver has those four digital inputs (two each optical and coaxial). It is also XM and Sirius satellite radio ready, you just have to add the respective (optional) antennae and subscribe. XM sometimes broadcasts Neural Surround-encoded material, and the Neural Surround decoder built into the Onkyo receiver will let you hear those broadcasts in all their discrete-5.1-channel glory. For iPod owners, Onkyo makes an optional dock that provides control of the iPod from the receiver. The system comes complete with seven satellites and a subwoofer. All of the speakers, except for the subwoofer, are designed to be used on either stands or shelves, or they can be wall-mounted. The three two-way front speakers are virtually identical same with the four single-driver surround/back speakers. On the whole, the speaker package is okay. Onkyo boosts that the HT-SR800 is the first HTiB system to use an Audyssey room-correction technology specifically designed for integrated systems. Audyssey technology uses complex processing algorithms that tailor the system's sound to your particular room. With its price and good sound combination, the Onkyo HT-SR800 is a delight!

Previous questions about this product

  • Has Onkyo HT-SR800 a known sub-woofer issue?

Bought my Onkyo HT-SR800 in August 2007. When it worked it was great. The subwoofer and amplifier failed two times and had 2 lengthy repairs under warranty. Now, after 3 years and 4 months it quit again with the same issue. I don't know if this is a single "lemon" I bought or it this is a known issue. Does anyone have the same problems with Onkyo HT series?
