Summary: There seems to be a lot of "clicks" when I first power up this HT-S9400THX system. Two fast clicks, then one second later, a third click. When I then power up my blu-ray player, a fourth click. As the blu-ray disc loads, a fifth click, as the sound field changes from "All Channel Stereo" to "Dolby D" during the disc menu, and usually during the promo attractions, then back to "All Channel Stereo", then finally to the movie audio, once I've hit play.
(Oops, wrong) (and again!) This amateur tried several and this is the best

Summary: *** UPDATE JUNE 2013 (back to 3 stars) Onkyo replaced the unit with a different model, and I certainly give them credit for that. I've also had a good experience with the Sony STRDH720 7.1 receiver (matched with the old Onkyo speakers), which has worked with no problem and seems to be quite a value for the money. *** UPDATE 3/21/2013 (one star) Oops again. Received the unit back from the hole-in-the-wall "service center" and hooked everything up.
Summary: I was looking for 7.1 HTIB system and I came across the Onkyo HT S9400 on Amazon. I have owned an Onkyo receiver before and liked it. The retail price was $1099 but I got it for half that price after Christmas. The customer reviews gave it a 4.6 out of 5 so it was a no brainer. Shipping was fast but the package was beat up when I got it. The package was well packed and protected with no damage to the contents but it weighed about 135 pounds.
Defective speaker and receiver. [Updated on replacement]

Summary: [Update:] UPS picked up the defective unit from my doorstep (free), a replacement appeared the next day (free). Free pickup and shipping takes a lot of the risk out of online shopping, esp. for large items. Packaging was in better shape - none of the styrofoam forms were crushed or cracked. As before, no external damage on any component. I assembled it all, tested everything up to maximum volume on a variety of music (the previous unit never made it that far).
Summary: I thought I did a lot of research before purchasing this all in one set. Unfortunately I never when on the official Onkyo support forum to see all of the HDMI issues with their receivers. The set arrived in perfect condition in a HUGE box with everything inside. The speakers are awesome and the powered sub-woofer really brings the bass to the party. My home theater set-up is pretty simple.
Summary: My title pretty much says it all. I have installed Polk Audio, JBL, Sony & generic speakers in the past. This center channel speaker was such a pain in the **** to mount. It has two little screw holes in the back, no mounting plate, and its a balancing act to get it onto our walls without pushing the screw into the wall and runing the hole entirely.
