Summary: I have liked this receiver package since we got it, about 2 1/2 years ago. It is a great fit for a midrange home theater, the sound is excellent and it works with all the modern surround modes. However, a couple of months ago it failed. While it turned on and the menu worked, no sound came out from ANY input. Some browsing around revealed that this was a very common problem, that many of these units were failing in the same way at about the same time.
Summary: This system gives us the perfect feel we were looking for in our home. I was looking for some thunder without that "muffled" sound that you can sometimes get when you pump up the bass. I use it for movies and music playback without having to change settings which is a plus. Take the time to read the manual, it's worth it!
Summary: After 1 year and 2 of these receivers, I just unhooked it and changed to a Yamaha. Biggest, most annoying issue was that the system would just shut off after about an hour of streaming movies or playing video games on our Playstation. Contacted Onkyo and there are reports of this problem happening with some of these models, but I guess we didn't have a lucky serial number because they claimed ours wasn't part of the recognized defective units, thus, no assistance.
Defective unit! Terrible customer service! I will never buy an Onkyo again!

Summary: I received the system in good condition and it worked well in the first three months. After that, two speakers started making "sizzling" noises. I tried to change the cables a few times and it didn't help. I got in touch with Onkyo customer server to know what I should do to get it repaired (it's under warranty!). They told me that they don't have any Service Center in North Carolina (where I'm located) and asked me to send it to Michigan.
Summary: This unit is a really great system when it works. I was very pleased with the sound quality that was coming out of it. But after two weeks of owning the system (with relatively little stress) the bass cut out. After a series of experiments I determined that it was the subwoofer that was no longer functioning correctly. I contacted Amazon and they informed me that I had to send back the entire unit for replacement and not just the subwoofer.
Summary: When I first purchased this unit, I figured it was a great deal for 7.1 surround sound. Unfortunately, my search for savings only caused me headaches and a broken receiver. After about 1.5 months, the receiver started making static noise through the right speaker. I tested other speakers on the same output, only to hear static from them also.
Summary: First of all, before I purchased this, I did a lot of research about this and was worried about the HDMI switcher overheating problems and the fan not working and the HDMI switcher failing and I did encounter some problems at first. 1) The HDMI output from receiver was flickering when upscaler was on.
Summary: I purchased this "Home Theater in a box" mainly for the well-reviewed TX-NR609 receiver. I plan to eventually replace the speakers with some better quality options when my budget allows. That said, I have had quite a few issues with this receiver. There are a ton of HDMI problem reports on the internet for Onkyo receivers, but I've had Onkyo equipment all my life and have never personally had a single problem.
Summary: I purchased this system for my new home because my older Kenwood system didn't have any HDMI inputs (or outputs). Pros 1. Powerful sound. You don't need to blast it to get a rich satisfying sound. Even when you do turn it up, the system doesn't appear to be easily overwhelmed. 2. Lots of HDMI and RCA inputs 3. Internet radio, iPod/iPhone, and USB connectivity Cons 1. Most of the remote control functions don't work (new batteries didn't help).
Summary: This package exceeded my expectations in quality and performance. There are alot of features that will take some time for me to figure out, but I look forward to better understanding them. Really enjoy the HDMI switching which I have been missing.
