Summary: The subwoofer works for a while then stops working. I got a replacement subwoofer and the same thing happened. The rest of the system works great. I have tried to contact Onkyo directly, but get no response. This subwoofer uses a technology of only operating when the system needs it to work. I don't think this technology works.
Summary: I Bought this system a little over a month ago and the subwoofer is already dead. I am contacting onkyo support tomorrow but I am not happy about having to mail this out to get it serviced already. I've read several reviews stating that their subwoofers died. If onkyo is aware of the Issues with their subs than they should mail you out a replacement sub first and then have you return the broken one.
Summary: I'll state upfront that this is a very nice system. The sound quality is great and I was very happy with it when it was completely working :) I purchased the system on June 4 directly from Amazon. As of June 24, the subwoofer no longer works or powers on. I will be jumping through the Warranty process hoops over the next few weeks and I will update this review to detail how well or poorly it goes. It's not off to a good start though.
Summary: I replaced an RCA RT2360 home theater receiver that I got back in 2002 with this Onkyo. Technology has come a long way in that time and this Onkyo is equipped with plenty of goods. Not only does this output 7.1 DTS Master Audio, but it supports televisions with ARC (audio return channel), so you don't need an optical cable only an HDMI cable to send audio from your television to the receiver. The sound from the speakers is crystal clear and great to listen to.
Summary: Looked at multiple other options and read the reviews prior to purchasing this system. Very glad that I made this purchase--great sound quality and relatively easy set-up. Comes with a microphone that quickly auto-detects and auto-configures each speaker in the room based upon your own specific room dimensions and speaker locations. Great for home video entertainment as well as music listening.
Summary: I am a fan of the Onkyo systems. They are inexpensive and uncomplicated compared to trying to put a system together a la carte. I have the HT-S3500 in my family room, and I was debating about whether to get another for the basement home theater or upgrade to this one. I wondered if the S5600 was worth the extra price. It is. I am very pleased with it.
