Summary: So far, the system is great. I have yet to connect all the speakers to it (I'm still remodeling), but the sound still is great. I'm simply impressed with the fullness of sound that comes from the system, even at what I thought would be a measley 130w/channel. Believe me when I say it, 130w is more than enough sound to fill the average sized living room. My living room is abou 25' x 28'.
Pros: Clear Sound, Easy To Setup, Good Remote, Interfaces Well With TV, Thundering Bass
Pros: Like any home theater this is just a starter kit, this comes with the SR-508 receiver and 7+1subwoofer speakers to boot. It has great sound and video quality and setup was a snap. Having 2 speakers behind my couch was new as I had a 5.1 setup prior.
Cons: This system will run hot but you should take into account the area you plan on setting it up and possibly having a fan is a good thing or central air. The sound is decent but what do you expect with stock speakers? Most will just upgrade to polk.
Summary: Worked for a few hours then video to my LG from cable box went to black then faded back on continuously. Went through 2 units from Onkyo and even tech support couldn't figure out what the problem was. Had to get my money back. Would NOT recommend this unit to anyone.
Summary: Onkyo came highly recommended by several knowledgeable sources and turned out to be just as claimed. A great system with true clear surround sound and deep base from the sub woofer. So far there is no complaints or problems with this system.
Pros: Onscreen menu, great features [including HDMI 1.4 (3-D) and HDMI passthru], and the subwoofer is good, especially if you're upgrading from a cheaper HTIB. Pricing is good - most places have it for around four hundred dollars shipped.
Cons: Surround speakers, excluding the sub, are weak. Would be better if they included the HTS-540 speakers w/ this setup instead. Not a good deal at retail cost.
Summary: Has good sound for a system in this price range, would probably cost much more to move up in quality and probably not worth it for the room I set up. It was pretty easy to set up, especially since I used all HDMI connections for my various components (TV, Blu-ray, Apple TV). Some of the instructions were less than clear and seemed to have lost something in the translation to English, especially the part about using HDMI to control several components at once.
Summary: Great package! I love everything about this system. I got my PS3, HDTV Satellite TV, ACRyan Media Center box all connected to the Onkyo receiver via HDMI. It has an iPod dock which allows you full control once connected (great extra feature). I am controlling everything using a Harmony 1100 remote and outputting it to a Samsung 1080P 120Hz 52" LCD TV. Great sound and very easy to setup best thing is the price, so GO AND GET ONE!
Pros: Clear Sound, Interfaces Well With TV, Thundering Bass
Pros: This is a feature rich package with a nice speakers and a powerful powered subwoofer. The sound was excellent except from the surrounds which were a poor match. Music sounded great at all volumes.
Cons: Receiver runs hot which most likely led to it's early demise in my case. If you must get this package, you should get an external quiet fan. As mentioned above, the surround speakers are very poor.
