Summary: Onkyo has been a great name and I've used alot of their equipment, even in live sound and recording applications. This round of issues and unreliable service as well as short life have ruined the name for me.
Pros: Sounds good. Lots of hookup options
Cons: Known manufacturing issue. On initial power up it worked for 30 minutes then shut down. Further power ups resulted in immediate shutdown. Returned unit to service center and they had a 3 week backlog for this exact event. Worked on return but 2 yrs later on power up there is no sound.
Summary: While this is not the most advanced, it is definitely comparable to Bose. I like this set a lot. It turns a movie into a theater experience. My wife always says, "Turn that TV down!" One night we were watching the television and on the movie someone knocked on the door.
Summary: I was a little skeptical when I purchase this sound system because I noticed some of the reviews were low because of product quality and reliability. I loved my purchase for a couple days. I had it connected to a TV in my small bedroom and the sound was fantastic.
Summary: I worked well for about a year and 3 months, then died a slow and painful death. First it began to losing connection once in a while. The once a month, then once a week, then it died. No video or audio out from HDMi.
Summary: I read all of the comments before buying, and all I can say is that I can really run my wife out of the house with this system. I really took some time with getting the speaker placement right and adjusting the system setting, but once I got it right it was like the only thing I was missing was an...
Summary: Pros: sound is awesome much better than sound bar setups. sound is very balanced good highs mids and lows. Easy to set up all the wires are color coded. It seems impossible to find a good sounding tv these days all of the flat panels are nice and thin but that leaves no room for a decent speaker.
Summary: AS of the writing of this, I'm extremely happy w/ this product. I honestly have no idea how I ended up purchasing this w/ so many bad reviews...I'm usually much more in-tune w/ other reviewers, and comments regarding an item.
Summary: The receiver sounds pretty good for the price. Plenty of HDMI inputs as well as an optical input and various others. The receiver has a ton of problems with HDMI though, I am assuming it is related to HDCP problems but have not been able to find any good info on it.
Summary: Onkyo has a press release acknowledging the shutdown issue. Those who have had issues go here: http://www.onkyousa.com/press_releases.cfm?id=253 You can enter your serial number and if it is an affected model, they will send you shipping supplies to send back and have repaired.
