Summary: I had heard of the quality of Onkyo and decided to purchase to go with a newly mounted flat screen TV. Easy set up and instructions. Sound is awesome and good adjustability with the preset equalizer button.
Summary: We purchased this AVR with the intent to provide basic 5.1 surround sound to our family room that has multiple devices such as a Mac Mini HD Cable Box PC, Various other portable devices (Phones/Tablets) and an 360-XBOX Game System. We considered many other AVR's however the value was over ridding factor for the decision. We are very pleased with the performance of the ONKYO HT-R390. Set-Up was pretty simple.
Summary: The receiver sounds pretty good for the price. Plenty of HDMI inputs as well as an optical input and various others. The receiver has a ton of problems with HDMI though, I am assuming it is related to HDCP problems but have not been able to find any good info on it. Basically while connecting devices via HDMI the sound will randomly cut out at least once during a normal 2 hour movie, and then at some point it will most likely flicker the screen too.
Summary: AS of the writing of this, I'm extremely happy w/ this product. I honestly have no idea how I ended up purchasing this w/ so many bad reviews...I'm usually much more in-tune w/ other reviewers, and comments regarding an item. So, for some reason (price), I bought this SS set up DESPITE the poor overall rating. That said, I'm really happy w/ this package. HUGE difference after years of using my TV's speakers as the only sound.
Summary: Got this more than a year ago. For some reason, three of the HDMI options suddenly have stopped working, like the circuit connections snapped out or something. Otherwise, am happy with the sound quality and other features. This is a good buy for the price point.
Summary: I have had this receiver/speaker setup for about 8 months. It sounds good, takes up very little room, and the switching and OSD is pretty good. However, I keep having a problem where, on first power on, the power quits, turns itself off, and I have to restart the receiver... This is especially annoying if you want to use a Harmony remote to control all of your devices. I haven't contacted their tech support as of yet but will update if I do.
Summary: I have had the item for about 6 months now and really love it. a couple months in i noticed there was LOUD static coming from one of the speakers and then noticed that it was starting to come from another. i contacted onkyo and apparently it is the Head Unit and not the speakers.
Summary: I purchased this system in June and I was very excited to open the box. After getting everything set up the speakers, while plastic, sounded pretty great. All in all I thought this was a pretty good quality system. I was wrong. After just one month of use, the HDMI output failed, making the receiver pretty much worthless to me (my Blu-ray player, PC, and PS3 all pass through sound via HDMI).
Summary: Was really excited to buy this system because of the name brand of onkyo and after two weeks of use I have to send it back for warranty work and I am still waiting for my unit to come back. It is a known issue on this particular model.
Definitley not your father's stereo. Maybe ok for low budget or small room

Summary: I bought this for parts so I cannot comment on the tuner/amp since it was non-functional. The speakers are what I bought the system for. They sound fair at low volume. They distort and get "boomy" at higher volume. They are rated 120W (peak), but beware they seized at much lower power than that (~25W RMS). Two of them are now toast. Onkyo should be ashamed...
