Summary: I purchased this for my sons' bedroom. I was particularly interested in its ability to play the same MP3 cds that I use in the car stereo. Most other systems I looked-at cost at least 10x as much. This ships with very long, very small-gauge, and very kinked speaker wires.
Pros: This unit has surprisingly excellent sound quality, component RGB outputs, optical and coaxial digital audio outputs, and plays MP3 cds. With discounts and rebates, this was very inexpensive.
Cons: Although I could list things this didn't have, for the price it is much more than I'd expect. Yes, the power can't be switched on/off from the remote, but if that's a real problem for you, take the money you saved and buy a Clapper.
Summary: I got good response from the ASTAR people.
Pros: It sounds great for the price and the controls are easy enough for my elderly mother to use.
Cons: When I first hooked it up it sounded great but after only a few mins. the power went off with my important CD in it. Rather than send it back I opened it up and fixed the problem by re-plugging the power switch. Works fine now.
Summary: If you need a cheap bookshelf stereo that you won't use much, you can't beat 20 bucks... If you need something that you will use alot, I'd look elsewhere for something more reliable.
Pros: Small size, plays DVD's, CD's, etc. Only cost 20.00 after rebates.
Cons: We bought 2 of these, one works fine, the other has issues (it's used very infrequently). EQ shows no activity on the lower 2 frequencies, and we get no bass on this unit. CD/DVD player motor died after 7 months of light use. Going to try to return under warranty, but I don't have high hopes of g...
Summary: It came free with my Hyundai tv and makes a nice addition to my setup. I am very pleases it so far other then the whole remote thing. As always it was shipped fast and i was always able to check where it was.
Pros: This is a great dvd player/stereo. Plays pretty much all my dvds with no problems. My tv doesn't have the head phone port, so it's really nice being able to watch dvds with head phones so i don't wake everyone. Also it's kind of handy having the aux ports and fm radio.
Cons: Like many others said, you can not shut it off from the remote.I can't find to many compatible remotes for it either. Also an equalizer would be extremely nice.
Summary: I been shopping Newegg for a couple of years now and have yet to be dissapointed with Newegg's poducts and service.
Pros: Presently surprised of the quality of the product for the price. I have my PC audio routed to the Aux inputs and I'm capturing FM radio and DVD on my PC from the audio/video out. After evaluating many mini shelf systems the Astar MCS-2200 is on par with the likes of iSymphony, iLive, and LG shelf...
Cons: No USB/iPod connectivity and no Power On/Off button on the remote.
Summary: great price for this unit,it works well. im very pleased with this.
Pros: great compact stereo/dvd player. it plays homemade mp3 cd's as well. system has good sound for it's size. optical and coaxial output so you can hook it up to a real receiver if you need 5.1 or dts.
Cons: remote lacks an on/off button. design of remoter could be better. for this price those are minor concerns.
Summary: This system was purchased for my 2 little girls 9 and 11. They listen mostly to the FM portion, but ocassionally a MP3 filled DVD-RW/-R and a movie now and then. Had some problems reading older CD-Rs.
Pros: Very inexpensive, great rebate made it less than th1rty d0llars shipped, plays mainstream formats, TOSLINK, good quality construction speakers with rubber butyl surrounds on the woofers, high volume with not much distortion, did I mention inexpensive?
Cons: The old saying, "you get what you paid for" runs true in this case. The glue for the visor covering the LCD was coming off, somewhat useless remote, non-intuitive navigation for the front buttons, very picky with media, cheap materials, run-of-the mill aesthetics, unimpressive power output, unkno...
