Head to Head Comparison with Hsu ST1 and the Velodyne loses
28 January 2014
Summary: Speakers depend greatly on the beholder's ears, the room and amplifier etc. It also depends on the application (audio vs home theater etc). This may be even more true for subwoofers. Please take this into account when reading further. Your needs and application might lead to a different conclusion. I wanted a little lower extension in my small living room stereo system for low to moderate level (loudness) playback.
Summary: I've had a Velodyne (8 inch)in my stereo system for about 10 years and loved it... I decided to try an up grade, so I went for the Impact-10 but it did not do the job... It really is very light weight literally, and the bass reproduction is also light weight...no pop or punch, just rumbles... My opinion...
Summary: I recently decided I wanted to upgrade my subwoofer from my current polk psw-111 as it was lacking in the lower frequency ranges(rightfully so, with an 8" woofer and no radiator). After hearing about the exceptional quality of Velodyne I decided I would give them a try. While im not turned off completely by Velodyne, I ran into a few issues with this particular woofer, the Impact-10.
