Summary: this is a monster sub once you break it then when I first took it out the box and played it it sounds like crap. Give it some time play for about 2 hours a day for 2 weeks breakin nicely and you will hear the difference. My wall shakes and knocked out of picture frame of my wall when I was watching The Dark Knight movie.
Summary: This size of speaker with the specs can be compared to the new polk subwoofer that costs $650. The price is so good because it is discontinued according to polk's website. I replaced my older 12" polk sub at 100 watts with this psw505. This one has excellent continuous power, and sounds amazing. I have 7.1 surround sound with the new Denon E400 all of my speakers and tower are polk.
Summary: Very nice. I bought this as I have a Yamaha receiver and it takes a standard configuration for the Powered Subwoofer. Unlike others this unit wires direct. It worked great and the sound is excellent.
Summary: UPDATE **06-24-2013** So far so good. I have had a chance to listen to more music, and I must say that this speaker is really pretty solid for music. I've listened to some orchestral, hip hop, rock and a variety of other music. I was pleasantly surprised by some of the bass response I got from this speaker. Its HT use is still solid. It's had more of a chance to break in now, and so far, it sounds really good.
This is a good sub but you can do better for a cheaper price!

Summary: I owned a Polk PSW-10 sub amplified by a 50 watt amp and it was missing a LFE port (Low Frequency Effects.) Of course I knew all this when I purchased the PSW-10 and I gave that sub a 3 star review only after hearing the difference between it and this Polk 12" 300 watt powered sub. My Dad owns this PolkPSW505 12" 300 watt powered sub. So I barrowed it for a few weeks to see if it would meet my expectations? Well in the beginning I thought it was great.
Summary: When I unwrapped my new polk subwoofer I was thrilled with the smell of the dark and sweet rubber. When playing any music it sounded like the earths heartbeat in sync with all the people of the nations joined in unicen experiencing lifes joy and intimacy of connection. Come with me unto the forest my child and sing a sweet melody my love, this sub will cleanse your soul of all guilt and sin and wash mystic beats into your bones, until you feel the intense urge to get up...
Summary: Based on the single review of this subwoofer, I had to jump in here and say something. I bought this subwoofer based on 527 reviews on Amazon and never found a single negative comment that would lead me to "Stay FAR away"
Buy F12 $198 or buy Dayton $130 12 inch, unless your a 16 year old child that just wants a big box that goes bang, bang, bang

Summary: I bet your just like I was when I first looked at the Polk PSW505, Tired of your crappy 8 inch joke of a sub. You need something more powerful, something that will put the fear of God into the heart of anybody that dares walk into your theatre while the Dark Knight is playing. Rather than that dull thud your crappy 8 inch gives you. So what did I do like many others? Searched Amazon for the highest rated subwoofer and wow!
Summary: Don't buy this sub unless you can handle the POWER! It's loud. I plugged this in where my old JBL 10 was and I almost blew my eardrums out. Call of Duty sounds like someone is actually shooting an assault rifle in my basement.
