Pros & Cons

  • small size, clear bass, deep rich, priced right, non critical room placement
  • plastic feet, no dedicated lfe input, only for my neighbors, gut rumbling bass, no magnetic shielding

PSW10 fills in the bottom end of your home theater system. Relieve your main speakers from performing bass duty and let them work on the mids and highs. PSW10 is a great addition to any subwooferless system and will bring your movie watching experience to the next level. Don’t just take our word for it, Cnet says "The PSW10’s deep-bass capabilities were impressive, but its definition and control on the Blue Man Group’s new DVD-Audio disc, The Complex, were really spec…

Polk Audio PSW10

The Polk Audio PSW10 features composite woofer, klippel optimized woofer, dynamic balance, intelligent amplifier, sturdy feet and loud and low rated.

Features

The Polk Audio PSW10 features high performance floorstanding loudspeaker (subwoofer). It offers bass duty performance and it is said to allow main speakers to work on the mids and highs. This subwoofer features composite type of woofer which is also said to outperform competitors’ subwoofers. The Klippel Distortion Analyzer functions as optimizer to the subwoofer’s motor structure, voice coil alignment and suspension at extreme listening levels. The dynamic balance uses laser Interferometry method to analyze the speaker’s microscopic behaviour which tunes out unwanted resonance and distortion with selected combination of materials, geometry and construction techniques. It offers intelligent amplifiers which is able to channel more power to the subwoofer while using little power at low volumes or standby mode. The Polk Audio PSW10 features sturdy feet which keeps the subwoofer from sliding across the floor when played at high volumes. The subwoofer offers “Loud and Low” Spec which is said to allow easy and accurate comparison of performance from different subwoofers measured the same way.

Additional features

The name "Monitor" is special to Polk Audio. The original Polk Audio Monitor Series, produced in the mid-1970s, ushered in the modern loudspeaker era by setting the standard for performance and value. The original Monitor Series is the line that made Polk Audio famous with its simple, sturdy construction, clear, accurate sound, powerful bass and superior imaging, all at a price that made great sound available to everyone. I picked the black version of this Sub for a very reasonable price of $108.88 from the river online retailer. The first thing I noticed was that while the Sub is black, the "face" is silver. With the cloth grille installed there is a silver line /border that is visible around the front. Seems like a small gripe, but it makes the Sub stand out, something I don't like, with the exception of my Axiom Sub, which has a real cherry wood finish. The other "gripe" I have is... Read more

The tight, responsive nature of this sub really impressed me while playing a variety of music. As with most subwoofers, once the volume knob on the subwoofer is turned beyond one third of its range, it will start getting muddy. Others have noted this as a flaw, but it should not be seen as one. I found the PSW10 quite capable of playing anything in my collection without lagging or distorting at moderate volume levels. The low wattage rating should not concern most users.... Read more

This is an amazing subwoofer, whose price belies its performance capability. Like all subwoofers, for satisfying performance you must place it in the correct location in your room for maximum power and good clear sound. One way to help you get around ... Read more

I replaced the non-powered sub from my Acoustimass Bose cube setup with this unit and I am floored with the improvement. This sub was a perfect compliment and solved my sound quality problem. I highly recommend Sparky in sales, who helped guide me through some targeted questions that led to this purchase. If you need to add a powered sub to your system there's no reason in my mind to avoid this product. Read more

The SW-10 is decently musical with no fatiguing thump- adjusted correctly and operated within its limits. Its able to fill a small room and has decent LF extension. Compact, attractive and appears well made. With 50 watts, it has limited dynamics, so HT use is limited to low power systems. I'm using it with AudioEngine A5 powered monitors; the Polk adds a nice solid bottom and it blends smoothly. You could pair it with other small monitors for a nice budget music system.... Read more
