Summary: I have been using the Onkyo SKW204 for several weeks. I do like the sound it produces but have some trouble with the Stand By feature that is built into the speaker. I have adjusted the controls on my receiver and on the subwoofer itself following instructions from the booklet enclosed with the subwoofer. I have found that older music and films that do not have heavy bass tracks allow the Stand By to kick in and out.
Summary: I love this sub woofer but this is my second one the first one just stopped working I have not had a chance to get it repair or checked I took it to Best buy but they could not fix it or check it the closest place is in charlotte NC two hours away
Summary: I purchased this unit reluctantly only due to 2 reviews by apparent experts. All I can say is ignore them. They would not have had the complaints they described had they read the operating instructions! This Sub is definitely the best bang for your buck! The only complaint I have is that the instruction should be much better. Adequate if you are a techie but not near enough for most of us. To the "expert" that had problems with automatic /standby/ shutoff.........
Summary: I use this sub-woofer with an Onkyo TX-NR616, and it sounds great. It's amazing how the sound is so much more alive with the sub-woofer on. A nice feature is that it goes to standby when the sound level is lowered below about 27db if others don't want to hear the output.
Summary: The old saying you get what you pay for holds true to any electronic component, not just this woofer. The sound is fine and price is not bad, but I suggest adding a 5 Amp fuse in case you need to turn the volume up to blasting. I live rural and had an outside garden party once so it allowed me to crank it up. It blew the woofer. The 5 amp fuse to one of the speaker wires would have prevented that.
Normal TV watcher? This sub will REALLY annoy you. Here's why....

Summary: While the sound of this sub is pretty good for the price when it is on, the lack of override control on the standby mode makes this a purchase I sincerely regret. It goes on and off while watching most TV programs, producing an annoying low rumbly pop when it comes back on. And this is not just about not setting it up right. You see, the unit goes in standby mode if it doesn't get enough signal for a little while.
Summary: I have just recently completed a home theater in my basement, and added this subwoofer as a finishing touch. The difference betweening having this sub/ not having was amazing. I had not realized how much i was missing. When the sub is turned on, even to low levels, it shakes the upper levels of the house; the subwoofer is located in a basement on a cement floor with cinderblock walls so most of the "tactical" base goes to upper levels, however with that said, it still...
Summary: This subwoofer was way more than I expected. It feels the room with exactly what you need in every arena. I highly recommend this subwoofer to anyone who is looking for an excellent product at a great price...there is absoulutely no reason to pay the high cost of those other so called high end manufacturers. Onkyo really did it this time!

Summary: Item arrived very quickly and looked as pictured. This powerd subwoofer makes all of the diffence in my syste. Before my music sounded decent but was had to pick out the bass from the mids and highs. Not anymore!! This thing rocks. You can actually feel the music. Very happy with purchase.
Summary: Received the product and love the design. Hooked it up to my Kenwood receiver and was immediately impressed with the sound quality. It shakes the floor! I am very happy with the unit and have become an Onkyo fan.
