Summary: The Martin Logan Electromotion ESL hybrid electrostatic loudspeaker is a great, mainly because it is the first Martin Logan electrostatic speaker at a price most can afford. The speaker is a real surprise, as it has the electrostatic quality of the more expensive models. The integrated 8” woofer is quite decent, although it takes awhile of play to bring out its sound potential. At this point, it is the integrated woofer, which does most of the lower frequency.
Summary: I have made several comments about the reviews made by others on this speaker. I have not yet purchased a pair these ML electrostatics for myself, but I expect to do so this year. I recently listened to this speaker at a local Best Buy Magnolia showroom and thought my experience should be shared here. I took my own music to use for the audition. The sales rep at the showroom was very accommodating.
Summary: These are my first electrostatic speakers, but I did listen to the top end models in the show room. Simply put, the higher end models get louder with good clarity- just like with most other speakers. These speakers, pair with a Marantz 5008 amp, produce the perfect top end volume for movies and music- for my taste. There was a day when I wanted to be able to blast my stereo to live concert levels, but not so much any more.
Summary: Bought them with a Yamaha AS500. Still waiting for the famous 72 hours settle period, but as of now, music is awesome. Movies as well sound better, though for that case usually a 5.1 system is better, due to heavy surround effects. I'm still working on getting it to the maximum level possible of quality (dampening my back wall, placing properly according to owners manual, and trying a quality DAC/flac files). Bass sound is not lacking.
Summary: Just purchased a pair of these. Spent a couple of hours placing them precisely in my listening room (27' W X 18' D X 9' Tall. Running with a 12' reference sub, pushed by twin NAD C370's bridged mono, Rega RP3 turntable, Accurus preamp, and Dennon CD. These make you believe the performers are right in front of you with extremely good clarity. The music is displayed with outstanding soundstage.
