Summary: This sub has serious horsepower. Vega has always designed speakers under the principle that bigger is better. Why spend a ton of cash on a speaker brand who continually tries to jam a lot of sound from a smaller driver/cabinet? If you have the space and a large enough room, get Vega. When I watch a movie with this thing cranked in the basement media room, the second floor of my house rumbles.
Summary: I installed this unit in a customers house that has an open floor plan and 16 ft ceilings..about 800 square feet. I placed it in the only closed corner in the room and connected it to the entry level Denon 200 receiver and some Klipsh Quintet surrounds and they were shocked at the sound of this very inexpensive set up. The total cost was including labor was $1650.00 and that includes labor wire molding and surge protectors along with 1 fiber optic cable.
Summary: I bought this sub on a whim looking to add a bit of low end to my system fully expecting "meh" performance. I was wrong dead wrong this unit blended beautify with my system. It did not stand out unless told to but simply added a presence I could not achieve before once crossed over at 50hz.
Summary: The sub is big and heavy. Its not the clearest sound I've ever heard but it is big physically and it puts out big bass. Its about what I expected. Great for loud music in a bigger room in a house. It would be great for a big party house. I wouldn't want it for a quality sounding home theater system.
Summary: I got this sub for a very good price (better than the one advertised here), and I am very pleased with its performance. It delivers deep and loud bass while maintaining clarity. However, it is a very large sub woofer, therefore acoustics play a key factor if one wishes to get optimum performance. Room placement is the easiest way to get the best performance.
Summary: I researched a lot of subwoofers on amazon and other sites... It boiled down to the Cerwin Vega CMX 12 or XLS 15. I could not be happier. I have this bad boy hooked up to an onkyo reciever that puts out 250 watts to sw. This speaker will make old movies and video games seem brand new again. Not only do you hear the explosions crystal clear also feel them. This is a must have for any surrround sound system. The XLS-15 doesn't stop there though.
