Summary: So whenever you read a review on a product like this (or any product with compromised performance), it's always excellent "for what it is." It's a very true statement that applies here, but it doesn't really help you understand how good or bad it sounds until you hear it for yourself. My built-in TV speakers are very good for what they are, but that doesn't mean I want to keep listening to them because I really don't like them all that much.
Summary: I expected more beef out of this overpriced soundbar, but the competition aint that great, so I suppose yamaha has lightened up their components. The previous version was heavy and by the weight alone, you could tell there was more cajones under the hood, this one is light as a feather, and I imagine that might explain why its half the man it used to be
Summary: What I thought I wanted out of this purchase was the addition of a center speaker to complement my existing main stereo and a replacement of the existing underpowered rear satellites with the sound field processing capabilities created by the sound bar. The Receiver is perfect for what I needed.
Summary: I purchased this item because I didn't want to install a full surround sound system. In the past, I ran a full surround sound system (5.1) with receiver. In comparing a "real" system with this unit, the "real" system is superior without question. This Yamaha unit cannot duplicate the sound you get from rear speakers, so if you are looking for a replacement to traditional surround sound then unfortunately this system does not meet that goal.
Summary: Yamaha makes some great audio equipment, but some of their products are really hit or miss. The Ysp-2200 attempts to fill the void of an entry level "sound projector" as Yamaha terms it. Basically it is a sound bar that touts 7.1 surround sound performance, and the bar itself doubles as an entry level receiver. The bar is about the length of a 40in TV and has has "16 beam drivers" which are supposed to bounce sound beams around your room to give you surround sound.
