Design flaws !

  • Excerpt: After a Bose demo, I was ready to purchase, but user reviews pegged the Yamaha better for much less $$. The main problem is there inherent delay in their audio processing is more than my video projector. You can add MORE delay to the audio to get lip sync, but they already had too much. So I returned it. B&H is very good about that, including prepaid return UPS.
  • Pros: Clear Sound, Easy To Set Up, Good Remote

Disappointed for the money...

protect02476, usa.yamaha.com

  • Summary: The sound is tinny and hollow and the unit doesn't automatically change sound modes based on the source - have to constantly change modes manually. Maybe I'm biased based on the fact we have a full home theater system in another part of our house. That said there are less costly units that would perform just as good. Also, why are there manual settings when you have an auto setup feature?
  • Pros: Easy To Set Up
  • Cons: Difficult To Use

Not So Good

BillH, Crutchfield
7 September 2011
  • Summary: Underwhelmed by the system. A slight improvement over my Sony Bravia TV speakers, mostly due to the subwoofer. Wall mounting not an option (I really should have considered this - gotta build a shelf just for the speaker). Wire tether to the subwoofer. Auto-tuning doesn't work - but my Sony receiver's similar tuning works fine in the same room. Not worth the money, I regret the purchase.

I agree with the other OK Sound Bar Review

K. Neman, Amazon
4 May 2011
  • Summary: I also think the Sound Bar was just ok. First of at 750 dollars you would expect loud realistic surround sound. I understand that this is only a sound bar and not a full-fledged system but WOW what a disappointment. First of all the surround element was just okay. I could have lived with that but subwoofer was terrible. You could barely hear it. I had this system setup in my bedroom and decided to return it. I didn't think it was worth the money.

OK But Not Great - Over Priced

Josh Logan, Amazon
9 April 2011
  • Summary: This is an OK sound bar. Sounds better than TV. But's that's about it. It is way over priced. Performance does not match the high price. Set up is very difficult. It does not come with a printed manual only a manual on a CD. I printed the manual and it has 77 pages. That should give you an idea of how complicated the set up is. I set mine up using the audio return channel on HDMI. I had no sound. Fooled with it for more than an hour.

Did not work for me!

michelleoh, ABT Electronics
24 February 2011
  • Summary: I was intrigued by the surround sound feature without having to put speakers around the room. Unfortunately, it did not work in my room. The system has great sound, but I only heard it from the front speaker. It could be that my great room only has one side wall and the sound didn't have anything to bounce off of. I would not recommend this for a room that has an open floor plan. The surround may work in a closed room, but I was not able to test that out.
  • Pros: Attractive Design, Easy To Setup

My system appears to be faulty and no response from Yamaha customer service

M. C. PETER "Careful in Kiel", Amazon
25 March 2014
  • Summary: I bought this equipment here in Germany following the very optimistic review in Hi-Fi Answers magazine online. This was in August 2013. The setup was carried out with the assistance of a local professional Audio-Visual (TV and Hi-Fi) expert who sells and installs some top-quality equipment. Once installed, the equipment produced some very acceptable sounds when compared with the output from the Sony flatscreen tv with which it is teamed.
