Reviews and Problems with Soundfreaq SFQ-01 Sound Platform

Summary: I bought it used and it was like new. I already had one Soundfreaq I had bought at Target and used for a year. One fine day after a year of ignoring it on a shelf in my dining room where I used it to play classical music on FM radio, my 19 year old son discovered it, liked the sound quality and bugged me until I allowed him to take it with him to college. So I found this one in white to go with my all white kitchen and love it just as much.
Finally found my keeper (4.5 stars -> make that 1 -> OK, 3) - update # 3
17 April 2013
Summary: Update #3: 5/30/2014 Sorry - forgot to come back to this... Got the replacement (refurb). Looked to be in nice condition. So far, it seems to be behaving as it should. I don't use it very often, but it hasn't pulled any of the stunts (yet) that the previous one did. I'm settling on 3 stars for a final rating because the original failed quickly & I had to get a refurb on what was obviously a defective product to begin with.
Summary: The sound of the SFQ-01 is very good. And I like the design. Reviews about the sound made me decide for this dock. However, using the device it is not the best experience I've had. I will list the worse things I've found: 1) When linking with iMac via bluetooth, it starts itunes automatically. There is no way to disable that. Even when you are moving among the different sources, if you step for a sec in "Bluetooth", itunes will auto-start and plays.
Summary: The first unit I got lasted for 15 seconds. Poof...dead. The second unit survived. This audio system lacked the full sound I would consider being good. The high frequency is very pronounced and there is some decent bass for such a small box. The problem is the is missing sound between high frequency/mid frequency and mid frequency/low frequency. The origional placement was in a very large room with a high ceiling, ceramic tile floor.
Minimalistic Modern Design vs Accoustic Performance
13 October 2011
Summary: This system's minimalistic modern design and features are excellent. However, its acoustic performance is mediocre. When playing high resolution-lossless music tracks at low or high volume, the clarity of reproduced sound suffers from low and high frequency distortions. It is impossible to enjoy subtle details like the flute's resonance...
Summary: Read numerous favorable reviews of the Soundfreaq Sound Platform and decided to give it a try. I was looking for a speaker that could be used with my iPhone as well as my computer and was intrigued by the Bluetooth connectivity. The FM radio was a nice bonus as well. After listening for a week, however, I decided to return the unit. The sound quality, while good, was not great.
Summary: Simple and Attractive unit. Plenty loud for normal people. I have an iPhone 4 and while it can charge on the dock, the annoying "not optimized for this device" message pops up when trying to use it as an iPod while docking. The biggest drawback for me is that it cannot play Pandora Radio WHEN its docked. Also the treble and bass switches are basically useless. The range of -3 to 3 does not make a great difference.
