Summary: If you're looking for a review filled with technical jargon, you won't find it here. Honestly, I'm not interested in the electro mechanical physics behind music reproduction. What I am interested in is clear, clean sound from my system. For power I'm using a 120 watt per channel JVC SR-501 receiver I purchased new in 1979. CD player is a new Onkyo single disk player C-7030. The speakers were purchased directly from the Polk factory and arrived in perfect condition.
Summary: These are not my first set of speakers. This time around I did not listen to these or any other speakers prior to purchasing on line. I went by the specs, matched it to the specs of my older non HDMI Techniques amp, and read thru a bunch of the on- line reviews, discounting the extremist's on both far ends of the spectrum. The thing that seems to come up most in the reviews is "does the speaker produce enough base, or do you need a sub woofer.
Summary: Very fast delivery. Great speakers. I've read reviews and people need to learn about AV units. 99% are made for home theater use. If you want big sound for music most music is recorded in 2 channel! Bottom line. Set your unit to 2 channel and speakers to large then try to tell me the bad boys don't make good base. Or your stereo just sucks.
Summary: These speakers are no longer made and are thusly old surplus stock. Because of their age, it makes sense that many have complained about getting damaged parts, especially grills. These are but tweaks (Series II) of the original line of monitor speakers that first brought fame to Polk some 40 years ago... still as smooth sounding as ever.
Summary: This is my second set (bought them for a friend)...he liked mine so much he had to have them! Matched up with an Onkyo TX-NR717 bi-amped and you have some sweet beats...throw in a high end center channel and rears and voila audible bliss. Save $400 on the pair on these vs. newer models.
Summary: After breaking in the Polk speakers for about a year (during which they sounded better and better each month, they were slightly ‘bright’ or shrill at first) I decided to try Klipsch speakers after hearing them decades ago at a boutique stereo store in Chicago. After plugging them in right next to my Polk Monitor 70 series II, I instantly noticed a louder volume level to indicate the increased sensitivity (efficiency of speaker).
Summary: Pros: Excellent sound, quality construction, professional look, another great Polk Audio product Cons: None Other Thoughts: I have been a home theater enthusiast for 30 years, ever since my next door neighbor showed off his system and I caught the bug... (dang that guy!) Since that time and after many systems and many upgrades, my latest being the Pioneer SC-1222K A/V Receiver, I decided to replace my 20 year old Sony left and right mains.
Summary: I got them from a competitor for what I consider a great price. The sound is clean and with good definition throughout the range and spades of bass. There is really no need for a subwoofer with these babies. What I find most impressive is that they sound so good despite me just running them off of a cheap 100 watt (50 / channel) audiosource amplifier that I got on amazon for seventy bucks.
Summary: paid about $220 each due to them being open box with a few minor cabinet blemishes. drivers in perfect condition except for a dead tweeter which was quickly replaced by me. It was ordered direct from Polk and I had it in a few days. The speaker with the dead tweeter and minor edge crush damage was from "KINKOSH" AND NOT FROM THIS SELLER- "KINKOSH' OFFERED A 15% REFUND WHICH I ACCEPTED EVEN THOUGH IT ONLY COVERED ABOUT HALF THE DAMAGES AND BECAUSE I DID NOT WANT TO BOTHER...
Summary: I belive for the price these speakers are very impressive! Nice full range that produce true highs and midrange with some low end. For watching most movies with my girlfriend I don't use a powered sub, but when I watch an action movie I will turn the sub on for that extra punch. As for music they sound great also. I can hear more sounds coming out of these then I would ever hear with my old speaker set up.
