Summary: it's an interesting and strange sound. the tweeter is very subdued, i'd say too much. the highs are there, though. the midrange is all there: brass, woodwinds and voices sound like no other spkr i've owned. the bass is boomy but i think i fixed that by raising the sub's filter to the max, 160 hz.
Pros: I replace the sp-bs21 for these and they make the system sound a little more balanced. I definitely can hear a consistent sound as I listen to game audio while rotating the camera. There was a small but noticeable difference in the sound texture with the other speakers doing the same thing.
Cons: I wanted to mount these speakers and the speakers don't have a thing to mount them. I ended up having to screw into the cabinet. Which I did not want to do.
Summary: I am used to 90's JBLs with titanium tweeters. Yes JBLs can be fatiguing after a while because the highs are so shrill, and sibilance (S's sounding scratchy) can be an issue. Played through Marantz CD 5004 player and Yamaha RX-V867 (95 WPC) in a 16 x 30' room with a Polk PSW505 sub taking everything...
Pros: Clear mids and surprising bass, seem to be well made, easy to listen to (not fatiguing). Good bookshelves for smaller room, may not need sub if you can place them optimally. Very nice speakers for the price.
Cons: Highs (bells, cymbals) are clear, but don't 'shine'. Placement may be an issue for best bass response (see owners manual). Owners manual has conflicting info on impedance (says 8 ohms one place and 6 ohms another). Also, can't set on their side unless you use foam pads (mopads).
Summary: I bought them just a year ago. First impression was not good because i was using an old Pioneer receiver with just a few resources. Now with Pioneer 1123-k i could notice how amazing they sound. I can't complain. Center channel is also a Pionner "by A. Jones" Great sound.
Summary: great sounding speaker. looks depend on personal preference. pricy but I got them on sale for $99 and well worth it. they're larger than I'd like but that helps the sound. I took one egg off because I wish they were designed to also be laid side ways or at least wall mounted.
Pros: -Great sound. clean balanced bass, clear mids, and crisp highs -good clean look (as long as you like wood) -solid construction -good connectors (not cheap spring clips) -good power handling at 130W
Cons: -only designed to stand upright -is not designed with any mounts (so "book shelf" use only) -at a little over a foot tall they're fairly large
Summary: I'm actually not done yet with the burning in process at this time, but so far, I like what I'm hearing. For it's price and sound quality, it sure did meet my expectation. I couldn't quite give the 5 star rating at this time because I'm kind of detecting an over exagerated base with some music; not...
Summary: These are excellent speakers for a home theater surround system. I bought 2 more a center and a subwoofer all under $300. These are a little large but can be mounted with an angle bracket underneath. They sound great when the volume is turned up.
