Monitor Audio Platinum PL100 Loudspeakers
16 September 2008
Summary: Insofar as the construction and build quality go, I doubt that you’ll find many
detractors who won’t like what Monitor Audio has done with this speaker. The ribbon
tweeter and woofer are proprietary designs that are merged together splendidly. The
cabinet features world-class craftsmanship capped off with splendid appointments, like the
leather-covered front baffle and the ultra-high-gloss finish on all sides.
Excerpt: Monitor Audio's Platinum range is nothing short of a landmark for the brand. Nothing the company has done in its three decades or so even hinted it was capable of building such exotic products. We're not talking about price level, either. MA has built expensive speakers before, but none have been as technically ambitious as the Platinums. The Platinum's technical story is an interesting one.
Pros: Deliver a sophisticated and refined sound, impressive detail resolution, lovely build and finish, good sounding dedicated stands.
Cons: We', d like greater dynamic bite and crisper timing, the speaker stand spikes tend to work loose with use.
