positively love these speakers

Bernardo Gonzalez, Amazon
22 February 2015
  • Summary: Absolutely, positively love these speakers! One of the best purchases I've made in a while. I hope they last as long as my old Bose speakers, which I bought back in 1993. I would recommend these speakers to anyone that really appreciates music of all types. Go ahead purchase them and you'll rediscover your old music all over again, I am.

MartinLogan ElectroMotion EM-ESL

Professor H "1amazonreviewer @ gmail . com", Amazon
28 January 2015
  • Summary: Fist off these have a somewhat small sweet spot for listening at optimum levels. For two people listening sitting over five feet apart this could be an issue. If on the other hand the other person happens to like you, for whatever reason, and is sitting close by, you are both in for a treat. Speaker sound was a tad bright upon arrival and setup, but let them burn in for some hours and they do mellow out nicely. Nice solid crisp bass.

Martin Logan Electromotion ESL, with Velodyne DEQ-8r

Dr. Charlotte Jensen "Audio-Video systems designs", Amazon
17 April 2014
  • Summary: The Martin Logan Electromotion ESL hybrid electrostatic loudspeaker is a great, mainly because it is the first Martin Logan electrostatic speaker at a price most can afford. The speaker is a real surprise, as it has the electrostatic quality of the more expensive models. The integrated 8” woofer is quite decent, although it takes awhile of play to bring out its sound potential. At this point, it is the integrated woofer, which does most of the lower frequency.

SUPERB with one short coming...

Mo, Amazon
11 March 2014
  • Summary: Running a trial pair currently. VERY impressed. I won't go at length into all the pros that so many have listed including fantastic imaging position left to right, transparency, scale, speed on the upper ranges (lower half (500hz and below) is still a rather large cone), relatively soundstage etc. They can also be tilted up pretty radically if need be and still be coherent. Why one star off?

Great Sound & Value but needs a proper amplifier

Ronald "Ron", Amazon
24 February 2014
  • Summary: I have made several comments about the reviews made by others on this speaker. I have not yet purchased a pair these ML electrostatics for myself, but I expect to do so this year. I recently listened to this speaker at a local Best Buy Magnolia showroom and thought my experience should be shared here. I took my own music to use for the audition. The sales rep at the showroom was very accommodating.

Incredible sounding speakers

RoMeR, Amazon
21 January 2014
  • Summary: These are my first electrostatic speakers, but I did listen to the top end models in the show room. Simply put, the higher end models get louder with good clarity- just like with most other speakers. These speakers, pair with a Marantz 5008 amp, produce the perfect top end volume for movies and music- for my taste. There was a day when I wanted to be able to blast my stereo to live concert levels, but not so much any more.

Pretty speakers, Monstrous sound

Daniel, Amazon
11 November 2013
  • Summary: Bought them with a Yamaha AS500. Still waiting for the famous 72 hours settle period, but as of now, music is awesome. Movies as well sound better, though for that case usually a 5.1 system is better, due to heavy surround effects. I'm still working on getting it to the maximum level possible of quality (dampening my back wall, placing properly according to owners manual, and trying a quality DAC/flac files). Bass sound is not lacking.

Next Best Thing to Being There

Dave Z, Crutchfield

  • Summary: Not completely satisfied with my existing tower speakers for two channel listening, I called Crutchfield for a recommendation on an upgrade. After a good deal of time on the phone explaining my likes and dislikes, my space, and my budget, we decided the MartinLogan Electromotion ESLs might be a good fit. Now, after a day of listening to them, I couldn't be more pleased. The clarity and detail are amazing and the soundstage is beautiful.
  • Pros: Great sound, stylish looks, and easier on the budget compared to more traditional speakers delivering the same quality of sound.
  • Cons: Not really a con, but these speakers will reveal both the good AND the bad hiding in your recordings. Sweet spot seems narrower than conventional speakers. Finally, they do need a bit more room to breath than my previous speakers, but if you have the space that's not an issue.
