  • Excerpt: Few manufacturers have JBL's long pedigree in the speaker business, so when it brings out a new series it's definitely time to sit up and listen. The 3 Series currently encompasses two sizes of powered monitors - there's the LSR308 (£219) with an 8-inch woofer; and the smaller LSR305 with a 5-inch woofer, which we are taking a look at alongside the matching LSR310S subwoofer.

JBL LSR305 review

Digitaltrends
25 July 2014
  • Conclusion: Whether you’re a DJ, a budding sound engineer, or just a music lover, JBL’s LSR305 are gorgeous pair of monitors that offer premium performance on a big-box store budget. While there’s plenty of hype around their waveguide technology, we think it’s mostly well-founded. And beyond the acronyms, there’s just a lot of well-crafted sound happening here. Feel free to tell your friends you paid more for these babies, they’ll believe it.
  • Pros: Wide center image, Deep, well defined sound stage, Smooth, accurate upper register, Big bass for the size, Very affordable
  • Cons: Midrange a little weak bodied

These Tiny Speakers Pump Out Studio Sound on the Cheap

Wired
17 January 2014
  • Excerpt: JBL’s LSR305 monitors are small desktop speakers that sound great no matter where you put them in your home. With built-in amps, these “active” speakers only require an outlet for power, and an output source for audio. The LSR305s take either a 1/8-inch plug or XLR as inputs, so with the right interconnect cable you can hook them into your laptop, TV, stereo, smart phone, you name it. The XLR inputs can be used for more serious audio equipment and applications too.
  • Pros: Mucho bang for the buck. Small footprint on shelf or desktop. Great versatility. Performance was top-notch regardless of how or where we used them.
  • Cons: Minor hiss at low volumes. RCA inputs would’ve been nice. The low end can be lacking at times

  • Excerpt: I bought these JBL monitor speakers for a small home studio. They are excellent. They have smooth highs along with bass that is full, but not boomy. They appear well made and look great. I have used JBL speakers professionally (museum exhibits designer) for years, and have never had a problem with them. They are a good value for the money.
  • Pros: Pros, Clear Sound, Compact, Durable, Easy To Use, Versatile
