Summary: This is the second pair of L830 speakers I have purchased, and I am very pleased with them. The first pair serve as the rear surrounds of our living room 7.1 setup, while this new pair are now set up in my home office. The entire JBL Studio L series lineup, in my opinion, offers a nearly unbeatable combination of great sound, solid build quality, good looks, and reasonable price.
Summary: These are well paired with Harmon Kardon AVR 1700 receiver. I only use a pair of these in stereo. Used mostly for music in a 700 sq foot room. On occasion I turn up the volume and these crank out the sound. Very pleased would buy again.
Summary: First of all JBL L830 are very good speakers if you like highs and mid-range sound. Crystal-clear the sound is beautiful but the lows(bass)are not good, when i raise volume the speakers rumble. Couldn't enjoy the highs without the lows so i send them back.
Summary: I replaced my realistic optimus 5 speakers with these I was worried there might not be enough bass, but there is plenty. I have them hooked up to a 1978 onkyo tx 4500 56 watts per channel. I don't even need half volume my CDs sound awesome.
Exceptional tone balance and clear sounding = high value.

Summary: I was replacing my 20 year old M&K S1B speakers. After reading several reviews I narrowed the field to these. They out perform my old M&K's which, at the time of purchase, cost about double the current price of these JBL's. The detail and clarity are top tier. I am now hearing things I didn't hear before. The first cd I played was a piano solo by David Lanz. Even at low volume I can hear David's foot tapping on the floor or foot peddles of his piano.
Summary: Do you need a subwoofer? These are great speakers. Some reviews insist you’ll need a sub-woofer; some say the bass is already great. I have JBL S26 speakers in my office. They are a 6 inch 2 way, about the same size as the L830 and have the same bass response. The S26s are in a small room and against the back wall. They are completely satisfying by themselves. No sub-woofer needed.
Summary: Took a week or so for these to open up, and for me to find the proper placement -- upright, on top of my bookshelf credenza, not too close to the wall. Using these speakers in my office for 100% 2-channel music listening with black grill cloths affixed. They're being driven by upper end A-S2000 Yamaha amp. Very good clarity, good balance across the audio spectrum. Good detail. Not tiring to listen to. Primarily listening to jazz, old skool r&b, and classical music.
This is probably the best purchase I've ever made.

Summary: Don't could on these speakers giving any sort of bass response, but... combined with a good subwoofer, you won't believe how great the sound is. The ultra-tweeter makes the output from an HK990 the best thing since sliced bread.
