Summary: These 1st of all are not cheap.. they are not even middle line for me. They are quite expensive based on my budget but in my opinion I got exactly what I paid for! Amazing clear sound from highs and lows. You cannot go wrong with these! The only concern I have now is upgrading my amp. I put out 110 x 7 and not a bi amp so they are strictly getting 110 max.. and they could use more.
Summary: I have loved JBL speakers since 1972 when I bought a pair of Century L100s that are still in perfect condition and in use today. I have only of late joined the new generation (I am now retired) and decided to upgrade. I swapped my 35" 165 LB RCA tube tv for a nice 50" flat screen LED model and decided to upgrade the sound as well. I was using a Kenwood receiver with a set of KLH surround speakers and non-powered sub-woofer.
Summary: I searched for about a year for 'the last pair of speakers I'll ever buy' to the point I was losing interest. The search criterion was; even, uncolored, full range response, able to fill a very large carpeted basement room but still in cost range appropriate to speakers that only get used a little, i.e. when my wife goes out. The reason I finally decided on JBL was because of their years in the business and their share of movie theater market.
Summary: I just received mine last week and added them to my home theatre. I replaced my front JBL E80's. This is a different class of sound. The bass is awesome. I just watched Pacific Rim with my son, and he could not believe I did not have my subwoofer on. I am hearing things now that I never heard with the E80's, and they are great speakers also. My wife laughs because I come home from work and just like to sit back and listen to my system now.
Summary: These speakers are very treble heavy, and cymbals have a tin sound to them. Mids and lows are fantastically balanced, but it would be nice if the two subwoofers packed more oomph. They definitely require a subwoofer to sound amazing, but without one, they still sound pretty good.
Summary: I ordered a pair of ES80s and I was so happy with them I decided to go for a pair of ES90s. I ordered them late night on 1/11 and received them late morning on 1/15. The ES90s are well built, very solid, look great and I could not be more pleased with the way they sound. You can really turn up the volume if that is your preference and for 249.00 you can not go wrong. I do not think I will be needing any more speakers for a long, long time. Update 2/15/2014.
Summary: They sound great! They are JBL and so are the rest of my speakers in the home theatre. Like many others, I'm not rich and this is the best I can afford so the deep discount was a no brainer. I replaced a couple of Sony 12 inch so yes... It doesn't have as much base as I'm used to but it has what I expect for 8 inch and that's why I have a 12 inch sub too. Running on a Denon 3808 with audessy which does a beautiful job with balance.
Excerpt: I just got two of these for my 7.1 home theater system. I've used them for about a week and they sound perfect. They suck up power though so your gonna need a powerful amp to go along with it. It makes any movie I watch come to life with excellent highs, mids, and lows. These could easily be used in a stereo configuration without a sub woofer.
Excerpt: I have been using these speakers for almost a year, and have only been happier with speakers when I bought my ADS L710's in 1974. The whole room rocks with a sub woofer that makes actions movies better at home than most Theaters. You need these speakers as the front speakers in a surround system , if you love movies. These speakers suck power, so you need over 100W of power. I am running 135W, and they can use more. Be careful as you may never want to leave your home.
Summary: Worth every penny I paid for them and got them for half the retail price. With JBL speakers you just can't go wrong. I pulled an old pair of 2500's out of the garage that I have had since the early 80's. Fired them up an instantly feel in love again. I did not think that I would ever be able to afford good JBL mains til I found these. Took the chance based on reviews and I am glad I did.
