Summary: I was trying to find a pair of JBL E100 speakers because they had the 10 inch woofers. I thought they would sound better than the 8 inch the ES90 has. The ES90 sound better than the E100, so don't bother looking for a used pair of E100. You can have brand new for the same or less money than you will pay for the E100 used. When I first hooked them up, my JBL subwoofer wasn't working. These ES90s sound so good I thought it was. It does go a little bit deeper.
Excerpt: I do not generally do not do reviews but in the case I felt it was important to share my impressions of this speaker and the ES line. Years ago I had a set of JBL L100's which to this day I regret ever getting rid of. They were a great speaker and so are these. In many ways the ES80 reminds me of the L100's and in particular how clear the middle and high end notes and voices are heard.
Excerpt: I have owned a pair of CF100s for almost 20 years and have always been impressed with the quality of their sound. The ES90s are very disappointing in all respects. First of all, the plastic pins connecting the grille to the speaker are so flimsy that several of the pins did not survive shipping.
Summary: These speakers absolutely crush it! I did a whole lot of reading up on what speakers to replace my surround sound system downstairs and I opted for these. I listen to a lot of music off of these and they sound really great. Not only that, but you don't even really NEED a sub because these will deliver great lows. I got the sub just because I had the extra money to spare, and I don't regret it, but it wasn't necessary.
Summary: Professional audio is my trade, when looking for speakers for my Home Theatre I wanted something that would deliver a responsive low end and clear high frequencies. I paired these with a JBL Tittaninum Center channel and all I can say is "WOW". These speakers deliver the big screen sound and fit perfectily with my 110" diag screen.
Summary: These 1st of all are not cheap.. they are not even middle line for me. They are quite expensive based on my budget but in my opinion I got exactly what I paid for! Amazing clear sound from highs and lows. You cannot go wrong with these! The only concern I have now is upgrading my amp. I put out 110 x 7 and not a bi amp so they are strictly getting 110 max.. and they could use more.
Summary: I have loved JBL speakers since 1972 when I bought a pair of Century L100s that are still in perfect condition and in use today. I have only of late joined the new generation (I am now retired) and decided to upgrade. I swapped my 35" 165 LB RCA tube tv for a nice 50" flat screen LED model and decided to upgrade the sound as well. I was using a Kenwood receiver with a set of KLH surround speakers and non-powered sub-woofer.
Summary: I searched for about a year for 'the last pair of speakers I'll ever buy' to the point I was losing interest. The search criterion was; even, uncolored, full range response, able to fill a very large carpeted basement room but still in cost range appropriate to speakers that only get used a little, i.e. when my wife goes out. The reason I finally decided on JBL was because of their years in the business and their share of movie theater market.
Summary: I just received mine last week and added them to my home theatre. I replaced my front JBL E80's. This is a different class of sound. The bass is awesome. I just watched Pacific Rim with my son, and he could not believe I did not have my subwoofer on. I am hearing things now that I never heard with the E80's, and they are great speakers also. My wife laughs because I come home from work and just like to sit back and listen to my system now.
