Summary: UPDATE: If you are using the Pioneer AV receivers, it might help to toggle with your receiver "memory settings" from the "audio parameter" button. Am not sure if those were preset sound configurations or if it set them when I first did the advanced MCACC calibration. Also play around with the settings if you use a denon. I use the Pioneer 1123-K model and here is what I observed: Memory 1 is best when using any of the Dolby/Pro-logic settings BUT NOT in stereo.
Summary: as of early Sept 2014 Only had about a month so far, and still in the process of breaking them in. Wired them in a bi-amped mode from the receiver. Still learning the bells and whistles on that too, so I haven't really gotten the speakers sounding as great as I figure they will be in a couple months of use when everything is hooked up and fine tuned.
Summary: I got these speakers about a year ago to go with my bic acoustech center, sub and rear fluance bipolars. People say you shouldn't mix and match speakers but I firmly believe that if they heard this, they would be impressed. The jbl speakers sound amazing with music(lossless Dave Matthews, pink Floyd, rage against the machine, rascal flats, Tool and jack Johnson. I also listen to music on vinyl, with Mumford and sons, black keys, and jay Z.
Summary: I just return my JBL ES80...I just went to my local FRY'S store here in So CAL and one of the JBL ES80 in the show room was damaged...and man get ready for a big surprise :-)) THIS PATICULAR MODEL OF JBL ES80 AND ES90 ARE MADE OF CARDBOARD.! YEAH your read it right CARDBOARD. I was showing to the salesman and pilling layer of paper from the side of the speaker..
Summary: So I purchased these as a replacement for the fronts of a satellite system. I was using a Energy RC-Micro 5.1 system which I was very happy with but after about a year felt that something was lacking. So I swapped out the front satellite's with the ES80's and I was blown away by the difference it made. Now I truly feel like I am sitting in a theater when I watch movies. I have an Onkyo TX-NR609 100 watt per channel 7.2 receiver.
Summary: I have had these speakers for a week now, I think they sound very good. I use them in a two channel system dedicated for music, driven by a Yamaha Integrated Amp A-S 500. These speakers really have a nice look to them much better than the picture, I like the fact they have integrated carpet spikes that are included (nice option).
Summary: Are used in combination with AV Pioneer SC-1223-K receiver. Result not outstanding, but considering cost - it is possible to estimate as good. It is quite possible to exclude a subwoofer. Over time the sound is better to become only.
Summary: The sound produced by these speakers is brilliant and true, and with a surprising amount of low bass. Add a JBL 10" or 12" sub from Amazon and you are set ! Rated five stars for price, quality, and performance. Buy with confidence !
