Summary: Very good speakers - probobally deserve a 5 star, but the base is just a little empty for me - although, I don't know if that is fair to say of any bookshelf speaker... I do like them and for the price, I would buy em again.
Excellent speakers for the price, with one minor flaw.

Summary: This is an excellent speaker for the price per pair. I purchased them for the back wall speakers for my 7.2 surround set up. I took away one star, because the speaker is not a rectangle base. The enclosure is tapered, narrower at the back, which was not mentioned in the description on Amazon or JBL's site. Consequently, I couldn't use the wall mount I had purchased for the bigger, JBL speakers that I purchased for the front surrounds.
Summary: Don't take the review title wrong, JBL ES30's sound VERY VERY good. Am not an "audiophile," but do appreciate a smooth and balanced musical presentation. Compared these directly against Focal 706v's. Both have 6" woofers, comparable cabinet dimensions, almost identical tweeter radiating surfaces but are completely different designs. To my ear Focal's inverted tweeter produces an open, balanced and airy signature which takes the sonic cake.
Summary: I'm not a techy guy and I can't tell you all about watts, tweaters and woofers but I can tell you that I listen to music all day everyday. I put these speakers in my pottery studio. They are about 2ft away from a wall and the bass is pretty amazing. These spearkers aren't very big and I was skeptical that they were going to produce the kind of sound I wanted. They sound like they are 10ft tall. I love them. I would buy them again.
Summary: want a book shelf speaker that can rock. heres one that will. Across the frequency spectrum they have great response. Though, there bigger than what the look. Have some space for them. they measure. about 9 inches wide by 14 inches high by 13 inches deep. So they do take a little more space that what you call a book shelf speaker. Make a good add on for sound system. Hang them from the ceiling in remote locations....
Summary: I needed a separate system to bury my head in-between the 2 stereo speakers to entice creativity when I paint abstract art. I dug out my original amp/receiver from 1977, my Lafayette LR-5555. I needed two bookshelf speakers to nestle into my painting corner. Even though I took measurements, when these speakers arrived they were larger than I expected. They are nice looking, well designed and built in China. JBL is now building its speakers in China.
