Summary: Subwoofer was defective. Subwoofer started making a high pitched noise as soon as it was powered on. JBL customer service is of absolutely no help. Thankfully Amazon know how to treat their customers, they are fully refunding me.
Summary: I bought this system last year, and the sub has already died. I have attempted to get it warrantied and I am not getting a response from JBL. Even when the sub did work, the performance was dismal, my alarm clock could produce more base(exaggeration, but not by much).
Don't buy - broken in a few months and hard to get it repaired under warrenty coverage

Summary: Bought at end of Nov, 2012 and two weeks ago, the subwoofer suddenly started to make loud noise and wouldn't stop once turned on. Emailed JBL and they admitted it is a known defect but since it is still under warranty coverage, they sent me a list of authorized service centers.

Summary: This 5.1 system is good for the price. A passable installation for a smaller home and a smaller room. I had it in my 12x15, awkwardly rectangle room for a few months. It performed OK. I then upgraded it to a 10x18 room that opens into a kitchen and a foyer. It held its own.
Summary: Bought this speaker set from Amazon back in Dec 2012 for my basement, and have not been able to get the subwoofer to work consistently for normal periods of tv/movie/music consumption. It shuts off after an hour, or sometimes as little as 3 minutes.
Summary: So, I set up the speakers and everything, and for the first week everything worked fine. Then the subwoofer broke, refusing to power on. Called up JBL customer service, which is an Indian call center, and asked for an address where I could get the subwoofer fixed under warranty.
