Summary: Don't waste your time or money on this unless you have ipad or iphone. When following the instructions exactly, the internet address given gets no response at all making this useless except to manually hook up to ipod. Thought I was doing something wrong and waited until I could get someone to help and then it was too late to return. The worst thing I have ever bought on amazon.
Summary: Nice looking and sounding speaker. But always had intermittent problems with it dropping off the network, especially if it was moved. Even when other devices have 5 bars, the iW1 would drop. I am not sure if that was an AirPlay issue or an iW1 issue; either way it was a problem. Then after a year, the speaker will not "boot". Will not even work using the auxiliary jack; is essentially useless.
Summary: When it was working, it would constantly cut out when streaming music. Sometimes when using the remote to turn the volume down, it would go UP instead. The "buttons" on top are impossible to see. Trying to use the functions is like trying to read a non-Braille book if you are blind. Then it just stops working altogether. Completely non-responsive. Rebooting/resetting does not work. No response from the company when contacted. This happened on two different units.
Summary: I carefully followed the instructions, and I had it working on my wifi network... for a minute. Then it stopped working. No matter how many times I power cycled this thing, it just wouldn't respond anymore. The ipad/iphone setup app is terrible also. No useful feedback. This thing is a weird device -- it has two separate power buttons for instance.
Pros: has a lot of features, but they aren't any good if it doesn't work
If I could rate it ZERO or even negative stars... I WOULD!

Summary: I've been a technology geek for 20+ years and have a professional career in computers and networks. I usually do a lot of research before buying a product, however this iW1 product unfortunately happened to be a spur of the moment purchase during a visit to a local retailer. This purchase turns out to be one of the biggest mistakes I have ever made and serves as a reminder to always do my homework. This unit is constantly dropping off the WiFi.
Unreliable, Frustrating and Disappointing Waste of Money

Summary: I bought the iHome 1W1 Airplay wireless speaker to use in my kitchen. I wanted a portable speaker to play my iPad through when I had people over my house for get-togethers and parties. I have a time capsule is set up in the study, about 200 feet away. I have an AirPort Express with AirPlay set up in the kitchen. I successfully am able to connect the iPhone and iPod to the AirPort Express when I am in the kitchen--not so much with the iW1 speaker.
Summary: I love stuff by Apple and loved the idea, but this was so bad I returned it in disgust. It had to be routinely set up because it just stopped recognizing my network, phone, laptop, or all, sometimes telling me the devices were incompatible. Rebooting everything sometimes had no effect. When I Googled the errors, I found everything was a known problem on the company's site. To me that's an admission of garbage.
Summary: I received this speaker as a gift for fathers day. The ihome iW1 speaker frequently cuts out when playing anything other than iTunes content. This turns what should be a relaxing experience into frustrating trouble shooting exercises. At this point i feel that this speaker Is a waste of time and money for iPad users. Another review said the problem is with AirPlay.
Summary: I've already had two broken units. First one stopped responding after a few weeks, second one after a few days. There is NO way to factory reset a unit. I repeat NO FACTORY RESETS POSSIBLE. All you can do is try to re-configure the units. Mine stopped responding completely, so there is no way to change any settings. Tech Support is absolutely useless, after a few emails, they just stopped responding. I will not buy any more iHome products.
Summary: I purchased this for my wife for Christmas. She was really excited. But it was nothing but problems form out of the box until I sent it back to Crutchfield. The software would have to be installed every time she went to connect her iTouch. Exchanged it for the Bose Bluetooth without any issues from Crutchfield. Do yourself a favor - Just go with the Bose. So much easier.
