Summary: First and foremost this is a great speaker for small room listening. I returned my item because, my room situation is double or triple normal size room. This speakers suffer from a shortage of power. This is epically true, when I wake up in the morning, and I start getting ready to head to school. It is very difficult to hear my music when I was in my private restroom. The only cons I can think about with these speaker, power level, and absences of the bass department.
Summary: These are, without a doubt, the best computer speakers I've used, outside of some rigs I have put together myself. Even those, I did myself, did not meet the size requirements to comfortably fit beside a computer, The Focals do this with ease, and sound great as well. I've always been a fan of Focal drivers and they don't disapoint in the Book XS.., Focal is the master of design when it comes to drivers.., I work in pro audio so I know.
Summary: When I purchased my new computer I ordered the Focal speakers based on the reviews and I am very impressed! I've never heard a set of "small" speakers with such a BIG sound. I expected them to be a huge improvement over my previous speakers, but I wasn't prepared to enjoy them as much as I do. I find myself spending more time listening to music on my computer because of these fantastic speakers.
Summary: This is not a disparagement of the Bose speakers. I still prefer the Bose volume button and the lack of a green light on the right speaker. The Bose speakers are also approximately 1/3 the price of these Focals. With the higher price should come the expectation of better sound and the Focals deliver on that point. I am listening to 24 bit wav files thru the Asus Xonar Essence ST PCI card. I am hearing things that I never heard from the Bose speakers.
Summary: i bought it for 290$. i think it was released at much higher price (about 450$). at the current price, it's a real bargain. like any good speaker, it requires couple of dozens of playing hours to let the speaker "open" and get it's final sound. before purchase, i listened in a store to this focal xs vs. audioengine A5+. like comparing bmw to toyota. focal has crystal clear sound, accurate & not too dominating bass.
Summary: Hello all, I like these speakers a lot. I do. Like anything, they aren't perfect. So here's how to start - I think these are great, and I'd strongly recommend buying them. Here's what's not great: First, they're tall. That means they balance poorly, but shake your desk not much at all. If you have cats, make sure you set them up so they don't tip them over. :) The bass is excellent for the size.
Summary: Everyone that hears these speakers are blown away by the sound stage! The voices sound like they're coming out of my monitor and if you close your eyes you can place each instrument on the stage. Loud enough for the neighbors to complain about and I never miss not having a sub. A++++ I'll never look back.
Summary: I had a pair of Canton speakers in my office and decided to see what these speakers were all about. Keep in mind that Canton speakers are very well made and use quality drivers. But after listening to the Focals I couldn't be happier. Much more accurate and a fuller sound due to a bit more bass. One of the other reviewers mentioned some hiss coming out of the speakers. Hadn't noticed this but when I put my ears up to the speakers there definitely is a bit of hiss.
Summary: The speakers sound great. After breaking them in and purchasing a DAC, they sound even better. These replaced a Logitech 5.1 speakers, which sounded great after eight years. I notice more details in music and movies with Focal.
