Summary: Easily one of the best speaker purchases I've ever made. I was very impressed with the build quality of these speakers. The cabinets are very solid and they look good too. 5-way gold binding posts accommodate bi-amping or bi-wiring, but I just use the bottom set of terminals. The speakers look good with the grills off and having the grills off allows for better sound dispersion from the tweeter.
Summary: Although these speakers are no longer available I would like to say how fantastic they sound. The break in period that Energy recommends is a fact. They tend to open up with a clarity that is great. I purchased these through Amazon which was filled by Vanns. Both have been great in my experience. The fact that the price was unbelievable since they were beginning to blow them out made them a no brainer.
Summary: I bought these along with a Sherwood RX-4109 105 Watt Stereo Receiver (Black) to use with my iMac instead of computer speakers. I absolutely love them. The sounds produced by these speakers are clear, crisp and not bothered with harmonics. An amplifier with about 100w RMS per channel into 8 ohms is about right for these. They create a much larger aural presence than I expected, the low bass frequencies extend much lower than I thought they would too.
Summary: For this review, I would like to concentrate on the so-called "break in period" for these little beauties; the previous reviewers comments on amazing bass, clarity and smooth tweeter response all still apply - they really are a RIDICULOUS BUY for $200.00: If I had to do it all over again, I would buy these for my entire HT system and pair with a tasty sub - and that would be that - it would be done. Anyway, I would like to speak of the "break in"...
Summary: I noticed that these speakers did not have a review on Amazon so I decided to write one, my RC 10's I actually got off of e-bay and I was able to get the Cherry veneer which made them more attractive to me and desirable...if I were to buy only the plain ash model I might be temped to just get the Energy CB 20 for less money or pay a little more and get the V 5.1 in Rosenut..
Summary: I am by no means an audiophile but I will say that these speakers have been more than enough for my music and movie needs. I use them in a 5.1 setup with an Energy S10.3 sub and they sound great. They are wonderful for music. I particularly enjoyed listening to Jack Johnson En Concert on them. Great soundstage. I purchased them for $200/pr on sale.
Summary: I was going to sell these when I replaced them with big Wharfedale Diamond 9.6 floorstanders for my father. I never thought too much of them when he was using them with an Adcom GTP-500 II preamp/tuner and Trends TA-10.1 in power amp mode. Nice tonality, smooth midrange and highs, but congested, flat, and just not very exciting. The RC-10s have gotten fabulous reviews, which is why I bought them for my dad, but I never really understood what the hoopla was about.
