Summary: I listened to these speaker at Best Buy where they had it all set up in a sppecially created sound room. It sounded great so I rushed to buy a pair. Honestly, it does the job but not the exceptional. I have had a set of Klipsch speakers and wanted too upgrade. The sales rep. at Best Buy recommended Dep Techs to be a better brand but I'm not too sure at this point. I bought a whole set of the 8040 range and I have already returned the SC 4000 Subwoofer.
Summary: I bought these to replace my 4 BPX's to help downsize my system. The SR-8040s integrate perfectly with my other Def Techs (BP7002s, C/L/R 2002), and they disperse surround sound better in my 14x20 room (the BPXs were too big for my room, IMO). Great sound, great size!
Pros: Clear Sound, Easy To Assemble, Minimal Size, Sturdy
Summary: These speakers sound great. They're easy to hang on the wall behind the listening area and because of their design, they radiate sound in all directions. This gives the listener a feeling of being "inside" the movie or music. They are also quite small, blending into any decor easily. I would not use them is a very large room but for most small to medium rooms they work very well. They are meticulously finished and I also like the fact that they're made in Baltimore!
Summary: I have 2 pairs of Def Tech BP-8040SR. These speakers are amazing, they do what every bipolar surround sound speaker should do, they "disappear" making them impossible to pin point their location. Definitive Technology has received excellent reviews on their Bipolar Series speakers, what makes them so special is their natural but powerful sound. Yes these babies are small but they do play loud and clean.
Summary: These are great, use them as side and rear speakers in my 7.2 surround sound setup. They have a keyhole in the back to hang on a nail in the wall, too heavy (8 lbs) to use with speaker stand that screws in back. I have my sides on bookshelves and behind me hanging on the wall.
