Great highs and imaging, but the mids and lows aren't strong

Summary: I just unpacked the speakers to find that 2 of the 4 speakers were damaged. The shipping box didn't show any signs of abuse, but 2 of the tweeters were dangling loosely like a couple of bell clangers. The other 2 speakers look okay and sound okay. Vocals are really clear and strong, and imaging is great. However, the mids and lows are mediocre. This might just be the nature of in wall speakers. A subwoofer is definitely required.
Summary: I am using as a surround speaker in the ceiling. Honestly it seems only movies take advantage of surround, and these fit the need and sound fine. The install was very easy as far as attaching to the wallboard. The clamps worked well and seem secure.
Pros: Easy install, sound fine. Came free as part of the Definitive by 2 towers and center speaker deal.
Summary: The problem I may be having with these pitiful speakers is I'm coming from in-walls by B&W. I used to have the CWM Cinema Series. And they were amazing. Rich and vibrant sound. These? These have tiny, tinny sound. For about a week I was watching movies with my computer speakers (two very small JBLs with a dome subwoofer) and those had richer sound. These speakers are really sad.
Summary: I bought these to be mid-priced front speakers in my family room. At any kind of louder volumes, they begin to distort. They are fine at "normal" TV volumes where you could still have a conversation in the room.
