Average speaker with average performance

Edom, Amazon
4 June 2013
  • Summary: I compared these to B&W dm602 (similarly priced speaker), and I'm not impressed with definitives. By themselves they sounded good, but when switching between the two, the B&W have better imaging and much more forward mid-range. The definitives sound a bit "hollow" in comparison. I preferred the HF of B&W as well, but not by as much. I'm also not digging the over-rated frequency response of the definitives...

Very Impressive! LOVE Them!

spstack, Amazon
7 March 2013
  • Summary: I found these speakers as closeout open box at NewEgg and based on reviews thought I could not go wrong. Well I hooked them up and 1 worked and 1 didn't and the 1 that worked sounded horrible. So I dismantled the nonworking speaker and found that the cross over was completely broken off the terminal plate... yikes! Guess I know why they were so inexpensive!

Great sound!

P. M. Adams, Amazon
16 February 2013
  • Summary: I bought these to replace a pair of gigantic, ancient Jensen 3-way mains that need re-felting. These BP8Bs (yes, they're "B"s, with the aluminum tweeter cones) were my first experience with bipolar speakers and I love 'em! Unfortunately these have been discontinued by DefTech because, as they said, people were going for the BP6B and BP10B speakers and bypassing the 8's.

just plain great.

J. Skilton, Amazon
4 January 2013
  • Summary: These are just plain great speakers. I'm running them on an old (1970s vintage) Kenwood receiver, and they produce full, round, room-filling sound, even though they are rated for 200w and my receiver is an honest 45w. I can't imagine needing more power indoors. I thought maybe they were 4 ohm, they are so easy to drive, but they are in fact 8 ohm. Some of the user pictures show them in use tight up against a wall - DON'T do this!

A nice surprise for the SET and Tri-path crowd

Michael Cheeseman, Amazon
23 May 2010
  • Summary: I've had these speakers for about a month. Other speakers owned are Fostex (Tekton),Aerial, Zigamahornets (Merrill drivers) Magnepan's (1.6's). I Like these speakers quite a bit. I can use them on my 2.5 watt SET or my Virtue ONE t-amp and get startling sound. You can drive them without a sub and get satisfying bottom end. With a quality amp, they sound nearly as good as my $4,500 speakers.

The BEST. Period.

M. Gottwalt "S-CarGo", Amazon
17 March 2010
  • Summary: I've owned these speakers for over 10 years and have loved every second of their performance. I have them running with an older Yamaha receiver. I've had them set up in two different homes. These are the best sounding speakers I've ever heard. They have excellent bass extension, imaging, sound field, and placement flexibility. They sound great for movies and spectacular for music.
