Summary: I was considering a Bose Cinemate system but did not want to spend that much money. I found this system and ordered one that was refurbished for less than 1/4 of the price of the Bose system. For the money you probably cant do any better.
The best affordable 2.1 for both listening to music and watching movies.

Summary: I wanted to have a compact sound system for my relatively small living room to watch movies and listen to music. My options were soundbars, portable bluetooth speakers, HiFi systems and 2.1 systems. I first eliminated soundabars and bluetooth speakers since none of them could give the clarity for music and base performance for movies together. HiFi systems were too expensive and unnecessary for a compact house.
Summary: I previously saw these at a big box store selling for the full retail at $499 and thought to myself for 500 bucks, this really sounds fantastic, is a minimalistic set up and has Bluetooth. However as a dad on a budget like many of us, I could not afford it at the time. After exhausting myself trying to find a soundbar with sub in the 200 to 300 range that was decent sounding with music and had Bluetooth, and nearly gave up, I started researching this Boston 2.1 set up...
Summary: It was very easy to put together. I don't understand why some reviewers said the speaker posts made it difficult to wire. I had no trouble. The sound is awesome. It takes some time with frequent references to the manual to remember what the LED colors mean, but if you're like me, and set it up once and then only turn it on/off & adjust the volume - it will not be a big deal. Worth the price!

Summary: I have a 60 inch plasma Panasonic in the bedroom. The room is big enough for the TV but the speakers on the TV are less than ideal. I didn't want to invest in an expensive sound system as the room is not that big and the need for a bedroom surround is not that important. So, got these on a "today's deal." These are great. Self powered, great bass, and the improvement is treble and sound clarity is great. So, no need to go with an expensive upgrade.
Summary: So glad I got this system. I wanted speakers that did not need powered by a receiver to save space. Didn't want a sound bar. These were just what I was looking for. These speaker sound awesome! The Bluetooth works great. Simple set up. The RF controller is a little odd, but works fine. I would definitely recommend this system to anyone considering it. I got the refurbished model. It seemed just like new. No issues at all.
Summary: This discontinued product came at a great price. I was a little concerned that it was discontinued due to poor performance. But it works great. The small speakers sit easily on a shelf of my TV stand and the woofer is alongside on the floor. The sound is wonderful. I bought a new Toshiba 50" TV that has lousy internal speakers. This product solved my problem. The provided digital cable hooked directly to the output on the TV and I have great sound.
Summary: I was looking for something that wouldn't block the front of the TV (as a soundbar would), and this is a perfect solution. Also, since the sub-woofer can be out of site behind the cabinet, this has a high WAF (Wife Approval Factor). Most importantly, it sounds great with nice tight Boston Acoustic bass tones. Programing my cable box remote to control the major functions of volume, on/off, and music enhancement, was not difficult.
