Summary: The sound from these ported units is certainly a far cry from what you get from any good pair of bookshelf speakers. Nevertheless, for desktop PC speakers, these do nicely throughout most of the audio spectrum and their highly vertical form factor takes up little space.
Not a troll or nay saying review, a simple heades up to buyers.

Summary: These are bombastic 5 star speakers, until they cease to work. I have had mine for about 2 years, taken superb care of them, never blasted them, and now the power button doesn't turn on the speakers (which is the only way to get them on).
Excerpt: Been putting off speakers for my computer for a moment. Decided it was time to buy a pair of speakers for my desk top, and went with the Bose. Just the right size speakers, along side my NEC monitor.
The only draw back on the Companion 20's is, you can't reduce the bass level.
Conclusion: I am a long-time Bose customer. I bought the Companion 20 for my exercise room to use with an MP3 player. I didn't want the separate sub due to space restrictions so that's mainly why I decided on these. The sound is solid with fairly deep bass and crisp, clear sound for a 2 speaker system.
Conclusion: i bought this today. Over the companion 20 are ok. The base is very good in this small speaker. but treble are very low compare to the base. As a result it become little miss match and only the base become very loud. it should make some clear treble also.
