Very pleased with this purchase of Bose Series V speakers
9 November 2013
Summary: Bought these speakers because I had a pair of series iv back in early 80's and absolutely loved them.I was in colo. in the army and had an old Yamaha wood case receiver that had plenty of power to push them. Was on the second floor playing a clip of a helicopter and people outside were looking around for the helicopter. LOL. I now have them paired with an older set of Pioneer CS-903's that have plenty of bottom end and everything sounds awesome.
Summary: I had a blown speaker and used one for replacement and it worked really great. I used it in a 402. I took alook and this was less expensive than other replacement speakers but I am 100 percent satisfied.
Summary: Bose 901 series speakers are still their top of the line speakers. when purchasing vintage speakers it is important to inquire as to the state of repair of the speakers foam surrounds. These surrounds may need to be replaced before the speaker is functional. Some sellers are not aware of this, and may not include this shortfall in their listing. Foam surround repair kits are readily available to address this problem.
Great tone and separation. A must for the most discriminating critic.

Summary: These speakers have great separation and tonal qualities sought after by the trained ear. I am a drummer so these are a great asset to my practice. I don't push these too hard due to their age but can adjust them to a very comfortable and full sound. A great listening experience awaits me each time I play my favorite music.
Durable, likely in perfect working condition, good value for the money.

Summary: First, understand that here my comments are ONLY FOR the Bose 901 series I or II. Series III and on is really a different design, ok but prone to "surround rot." (almost always needs repairs). Of four pairs I've owned, 3 were in 100% original condition and the cloth-surround drivers appeared original and perfectly working. The 4th pair had replacement drivers, competently done.
Great speakers in a small package. Beautiful cabinets too.

Summary: I never liked Bose speakers but when I heard these in the 80's with a Scott receiver I thouht they sounded great. 30 years later they sound even better. You need the equalizer to make these speakers sounds good and placement is very important. I'm running mine with an Adcom 545 and it is doind just fine.
Unmatched performance when setup correctly with the Bose 901 EQ

Summary: I have owned many expensive audiophile level speakers. For some reason I can't seem to get the ambience and 'alive' sound the 901's give me in any other speaker. This has something to do with the reflective property's 901's have. There are speakers in the rear that fire against a wall and the wall reflects the sound and becomes a part of the speaker performance.
overrated nice decorations.but hard to get 1200$ sound from these.

Summary: i reciently purchased a pair of series 2 901 speakers. they were cheap but sold as is. the configuration inside is complex[some in series, some in paralell] but after extensive testing i found two bad voicecoils.if one driver in each cabinet is blown ,three are not playing and act as out of phase drones. when all are playing and equilization to suppress midtones they will produce amazing sound.
Summary: Bought my 1st 901 in 1971. I now have 3 pairs. The Stereo sound is as good as your ears can hear. That 1971 sounds no different now than in 1971. A pair outside for the Summer, 1 in the basement and the 3rd in the living room. Would never try a different speaker.I have all 3 driven by 3 mcIntosh amp and preamp..2 Mc2100 1Mc 2120, Preamp C26, C28 and C31V I don't believe that the newer 901 is any better than the older 901. How can you improve on a perfect speaker.
